Dear List Members,
Even though I've only subscribed to this list within the past couple of days, I've found a "new" cousin!
Through information that Elizabeth provided, I was able to find "the missing link" which connected my family and that of my husband's to hers. Elizabeth has given permission for me to announce our "cousin-ship"... she and I are 10th cousins once removed, and she's also my husband's 3rd cousin 3x removed. With this information, Elizabeth asked me, "Wait a minute, are you and your husband related?" The answer to that is "yes". As I told Elizabeth, "My husband and I are definitely related (through other families), and we didn't realize this until a couple of years ago when I really started delving into genealogy. I didn't know about the Caldwell connection until a couple of weeks ago when I began to suspect it. I just ran a kinship report and found that my sweetheart and I are half 5th cousins 1x removed, 5th cousins 1x removed, 6th cousins, and half 8th cousins."
What a strange, strange world we live in!
Best regards,
Jacquelyn (Erhard) Bean

Karen -
Have you explored a possible relationship between your Polly Logan Caldwell
and the 1755 marriage between Mary Logan and Robert Caldwell of the Cub
Creek Caldwells?
According to my records, Mary Logan and Robert Caldwell had the following
daughters: Margaret Caldwell, Jane Caldwell, Mary Logan Caldwell (who
married Henry Palmer), Elizabeth Caldwell and Jeanne Caldwell.

Hi,
I live in MI but was at Hyden in Dec.
I am looking for my grandmother's parents so that I may meet my Saylor family for the first time. My father was an Orphan Train Rider in 1914 and a few months ago I found my paternal family,(CALDWELL) and went to KY from MI to meet them. Incredible! I am so gratefull! Now I hope to find my grandmother's family. Any cousins out there?

CATHERINE SAYLOR was previously married to JAMES NAPIER in Jan 21, 1886 Leslie Co. No children found yet. I have the records on these marriages. There has been some confusion about her surname. I hope this clears that up unless..someone out there knows something else about her that I have missed.

These are the possibilities so far:
I found a JAMES SAYLOR b 1824 KY and ELIZABETH BURKE b 1832 VA. They had 13 children one of which was a Catherine b abt 1859. This is close to the other date.
Another possibility is in 1870 Clay Co Census; JONATHAN B.SAYLOR b abt 1849, m 1-1-1868 to ELIZABETH WILSON FARMER b abt 1843. She brought 3 FARMER children with her into the marriage, CATHERINE FARMER, b abt 1860, Sylvesta and John FARMER then 7 Saylor sibs. CATHERINE could have taken her stepfathers name making her CATHERINE SAYLOR when she was born a FARMER. In the 1880 Knox Census a Catherine Saylor is living with the BURNETTS with a 2 year old child named DELANA SAYLOR.
Can anyone tell me anything that will help me locate my maternal family. We will be back to KY in June and I would love to meet my grandmothers family if possible.
Thanks for reading this,

David Caldwell born 1766 in North Carolina per census records information.
He married Sarah ? born 1775 in South Carolina, alos per census records.
Per a book titled GONE TO GEORGIA found in our library here in Gilmer Co. Georgia, on page 215 is alisting of Caldwells on the Wilkes Co. Georgia 1820 census, Curtis and John Caldwell are listed. For Gwinnett Co. is a James Caldwell. Alexander, James and William are listed for Clarke Co. David is listed in Habersham. The book generalizes stating several other CALDWELLS in the state but doesn't list them. A Curtis Coldwell married Sarah McCowan in Oglethorpe Co. on May 4, 1826. This the book states this "Most of the Caldwells came from Pennsylvania to Virginia and then moved south and west." The first mention of a Caldwell in Georgia is Alexander from Virginia who took land on Ogeechee in December 1773 in Wilkes Co. Georgia. Then the book makes another generalization in stating "Most of the Caldwells in Georgia are related to the family of David Caldwell who was in Pendleton Dist. South Carolina in 1790 showing up on the first U.S. census taken.
There is a David Caldwell who received a headright grant in Madison Co. Georgia of 300 acres in 1829.
Then for 1830, 1831, 1832, and 1834 he is listed on the Whites among the Cherokees special census records. There are 3 David Caldwells is listed in the 1832 special census of Whites among the Cherokee in North Georgia. Whether or not this is the same person is debatible. Two lots in Cherokee Co. and one lot in Meriwether Co. Georgia. We assume the 2 lots in Cherokee Co. is our David Caldwell. David is listed with wife and 5 children and as a farmer in Lumpkin Co. which was formed from Cherokee County.
There is a David Caldwell listed as working for John Staver in 1831, 1832.
Then on the 1832 and 1838 Georgia Gold lotteries David Caldwell is listed as being a "winner" of various lots. Also listed are other of our collateral lines DISHEROON, WESTBROOK, SEABOLT, ASH, PHILLIPS.
Other Caldwells listed in the land lottery books are Andrew H., Elizabeth, John, Leander G., Garland, and Sherod. Whether these are related is unknown.
On the 1840 census records for Lumpkin County Georgia David is listed along with one known son named Joseph David Caldwell. Joseph married Sarah Disharoon. On the 1850 census David is living in Joseph's household. Next door is Meredith Caldwell (our link to the line) and his wife Winnie Ovaline Woody Caldwell.
The 1840 census also lists George and Robert Caldwell in Meriwether County Georgia. Unknown if these two are related.
There are several CALDWELLS listed in the newly printed book on Confederate Pensions in Georgia. Those named are George R., James M., John J., and William Daniel.
And finally there is a David H. CALDWELL who filed for status as a Cherokee on the Miller roll.
I have been sent information that CREED CALDWELL's father was named David William Caldwell born June 1769 but his wife was not Sarah, but Elizabeth Tanner. If anyone is working on the Georgia Caldwells and has further information on our Caldwells, please let me know... Thanks, Leslie Thomas

I am Susan from New Jersey and would like to find anything about my paternal
greatgrandmother,Lawrence Grove Caldwell. She was born in Craig,Co., Virginia
on May 4,1869. She married Andrew Jackson Damewood on Dec. 25,1888. They had
a son Harry Fulton Damewood,my grandfather. I was told that Lawrence's
parents were Alexander Gibson Caldwell and Marcella Surber but have no
documentation. There are so many Caldwells in that area there must be a
connection. Would appreciate any help. Thanks

Greetings to all List members! Since we are well into a new year with new
members to our group it might be a benefit to our research to hold what I
have named a Brick Wall Roll Call.
Please be sure to put the appropriate subject in the subject line such as
Brick Wall - "name", "state" and time frame.
During this roll call I ask that each member submit their "Brick Wall"
ancestor. You might include in the information you send, as much as you know
about this ancestor. Their siblings, spouses, children and also the places
you
know they lived etc. Maybe a timeline of their life as you know it. Perhaps
we will find ancestors living in the same time and place that we might be
able to connect.
Even if you have submitted information on your ancestor in the past please
send along your data again. Who knows we may find more cousins among us!
Also in your signature you might include where you live, not your address but
the country and region/state you live in. It would be fun to know how many
are huntin' in the different areas of the world.
This roll call should make for much more activity on the list and because of
this I'm asking that we begin the roll call tomorrow Wednesday, Feb 27th.
Take care, Kathie Harrison

I just sent an email that I am not certain is going through....so will send
it again....
I have stumbled upon a site which I found to be VERY helpful to me in my
research. It takes a long, long time for things to get done....but it IS
WELL WORTH THE WAIT....You must be VERY PATIENT AND VERY CREATIVE in your
search....but if you are it will yield very interesting results.
It is like having a library in your home to browse through.....I highly
suggest you at least try it...If a computer "dummy" like me can navigate it,
then you more advanced types will catch right on to it!
If you have any trouble accessing it, or navigating it, let me know and I
will help you any way I can....

On the other hand, it has some real treasures in it for ANY GENEALOGIST....It

It takes a while to learn how to navigate it, but as computer "dumb" as I am
I was able to do it. It IS WORTH THE TIME....just be VERY PATIENT & Very

Hello and my sincere apology for the many posts that went out. I don't know what happened. My posts kept coming back
"Permanent Fatal Errors. Sender Domain Does Not Exist".
So I e-mailed for help and a person with more knowledge than I said:
>There was probably a temporarily problem with your server that
caused your emails to "bounce" and after a number of bounces
the "robot' would have unsubscribed you from the list without you
knowing about the problem.
The way to solve this is to re-subscribe to the list that you wish
to continue to post and receive mail from. You can do this by
sending an email to the subscription address with the word

I did this and all the ones I tried to post apparently posted. I am glad I can post again but very sorry for clogging the system.

Hi,
I received my uncle REV.JACKSON C. CALDWELL, ( b March 10, 1897 Leslie co. KY.) Delayed Birth Certificate in the mail today.
As many of you know I have found my Caldwell family and met them for the first time at Christmas. My father was orphaned in 1914 and never found his family again. I have not found my grandmother's family. CATHERINE SAYLOR CALDWELL. (b abt 1860 d abt 1905 in childbirth).
This Birth Certificate is the first real name I have that shows a relative to my grandmother. It says MIKE SAYLOR rel. age 76. Since this was officially made on April 1, 1954 that would make MIKE (MICHAEL?) SAYLOR's birthday about 1878. I will presume Leslie Co. only because that was where the birth of many of my aunts and uncles took place including my fathers.
DARLA SAYLOR JACKSON had a post on Ancestry that said MIKE SAYLOR (wife MATILDA BELCHER) was her gr grandfather and that she was related to HARDY CALDWELL. We may be connected somehow so if you see this or if anyone knows her please by all means let her know I am looking for her and thanks for your help!
So.. now I am looking for MIKE SAYLOR. Anyone have this fellow in your tree??? Please Help! I may have a chink in the WALL!
In Hope,
Elizabeth Caldwell
surnames: CALDWELL/COLDWELL/COLWELL, SAYLOR, WHITEHEAD, HARDY
