As this list appears to have mainly Caldwell's in the USA, I thought I would
just briefly list the family that I'm researching and hope that someone out
there is also researching them.
The Caldwell family arrived in Australia as immigrants on the Beejapore in
1853. My main interest is in Martha who went on to marry William Carvosso
Wearne.
Kind Regards,
Danielle

In answer to John Caldwell, I do not have much more.
Have a unsubstantiated yr of marriage of Wm and Margaret McCune of 1752.
There is a little one column query in a series of books of PA queries by
Engle. (sorry I don't have the page and volume handy) (do have the page in
the form a .gif if you would like a copy of it.) But I can't vouch for
the truth of it (in fact the years of b and d for dau Margaret Caldwell
Nichols are both wrong). Briefly, though, it lists Wm and Margaret McCune's
eleven children as Isabel, Thomas, James, Jane, Margaret, William,
Elizabeth, Mary, Eleanor, Martha, and Agnes with greater detail on Isabel's
children.
Don't know sons Joseph or Robert.
If you look here
http://www.jacksonville.net/~bjcox/caldwellgen.html
you will find the text of a court document that mentions some children and
spouses of William. It is proof that Wm is Margaret's father.
I think Wm Caldwell fought in the Rev. War so that would be a possible
angle of search...
that and every old PA document.
There are Caldwells in Crumrine's book VA Court Records in Southwestern PA.
For example:
Yohogania co July 27th 1778
William Caldwell v William Fry, Thos. Lapsley S.B.
William Caldwell v Peter Reasner, Thomas Lapsley S.B.
and then some mentions in Ohio co 6 Apr 1778 "William Caldwell enters
special Bail wherein the Commonwealth is plaintiff & James Caldwell
Defendant, viz the Grand Jury Court next."
there is some more of that kind of thing... James and William both given
names mentioned.
If you can make anything of that let me know. Since Margaret Caldwell
married Mathias Nichols in what was OH county in 1796 there might be
something, if you can keep track of the changing county lines...

Hi Barbara,
I have some interest in this family, also.
I've seen this before, but included a Joseph and Robert as sons. I've also
been told that this William m. "Elizabeth" is a son of George m. Jane
Phillips, but haven't looked into it much beyond that.
Do you have any other data?
John Caldwell
btw - Kudo's to Kathie for keeping a tight ship. :)

I am searching for William Thomas CALDWELL b. 1856. His first wife was
Caroline PICKLER b. 1856 d. 1889 Carroll Co., TN, which leads me to believe
that William is also from TN. They had 2 kids- Jeff b.1887 and Onie b. Dec
9, 1889. His second wife was Florence Elizabeth "Lizzie" PULLIG 1861-1944
(my ggrandmother) and they were married Sep 14, 1890 in Columbia Co., AR.
They had 5 kids. They divorced and he married his third wife, Cassie
WILLIAMSON (1884-1916) in 1906, also in Columbia Co., AR. They had 2 kids.
And then he disappears. It is rumored that he moved to TX and married again
and fathered more children, possibly before he got his divorce from Cassie,
and might have spent some time in jail because of that. I believe that
William's family lived near Caroline's family in TN based on a census I
found. I also believe that his move to TX could have been motivated by 2
factors: 1) There is another Caldwell family (Oliver Hazard Perry CALDWELL)
that moved from TN, moved to Columbia Co., AR, intermarried with the PULLIG
family, and then moved on to TX. 2) The PULLIG family also had several
branches which left Columbia Co. and moved to TX.
I would love to find out where this man came from - and where he went.

William CALDWELL who was born in Oct 1726 in PA and died about 1787 in
Washington Co PA is my dead end of the Caldwell family. Supposedly was
married to Margaret McCune but the wife mentioned in his will was
"Elizabeth". Wonder if this is a second marriage? Perhaps this?:
A William Caldwell married Elizabeth EDGAR in Penn. in 25 Jun 1770. (Think
this is from a book of PA
marriages at the local FHC.)
The children of William Caldwell (mentioned in his will) are William, Mrs
Nathn Templeton, Margret, Elizabeth, Mary, Elinor, Marthew, & Agness,
Jean/Jane who is Mrs Robert Guthrie/Guttery. In his will he differentiates
between his younger and older daughters so perhaps the later daughters are
of Elizabeth?
Has anyone proved who William's parents are, and/or where they came from?
Note: William's daughter Margaret (bca 1775) married Mathias Nichols in
1796 in Ohio co VA. They then moved to Muskingum co OHIO. Margaret Caldwell
Nichols had some dealing later in life with a James Caldwell. Since her
brother James died when she was 3, we know it wasn't him. But who was it,
likely a relative? uncle?
Would love to hear from anyone who is working on this family.
Barbara Cox
