This is great, Carmen!
Okay, regarding Jane v. Sarah, if George and Jane came to America together married, and Sarah remarried after George's death after 1746, I would guess that Jane would have to be the first wife and not Sarah.
If George and Jane came to America prior to 1727, and she died before that date, then it would be easier to add it all up, I think.
If that were the case, and he married Sarah prior to that date, then I would think the birth dates of the children might help to figure it out. If George Jr. was in the militia in 1742 at the age of 15, then he would have had to have been born abt. 1727
I'm still trying to find if George and Jane had any children, in particular a son named, William.
I noticed in your endnotes you refer to a Pat Stark. Pat was my lead source for William as the son of George and Jane, with William married to an Elizabeth and children;
Joseph (m. Jane McGrew - my ancestors)
James (m. ? - children Sarah, Jane, Abigail, Isabella, Phoebe, Polly, Ebenezer, Joseph, and Elizabeth)
Robert (m. Jane Fryer - children Joseph, George, Arthur, Agnes, Ann, Jane, Elizabeth, and Margaret - Ann said to have married a Hamilton)
William
Mary
Elinor
Martha
Agness
Any thoughts?

I missed the property distribution.
If this is the case, maybe George and Jane preceeded his brother (and her sister) to America.
If he and Jane came in 1727 and she died the same year, and he married Sarah in 1728 and had a child that same year, and that first child was a son, Thomas, then Thomas would have been about 15 in 1743 when Thomas recorded the deed for the George Caldwell tract. Were Thomas born in 1728, George would have been around 38 when Thomas was born and about 52 in 1742 making it all plausible.
In the probate the George and Mary listed look like they could be children of George and Sarah. Have you had any luck with birthdates for Thomas or the others? Have you seen anything on children from the union of George and Jane?

Thanks, Carmen.
This is where I get confused;
"While Cunningham, Little John, and Parks were able to appear at court and record their deeds on 1 Nov 1742, George Caldwell did not. The following year, Thomas Caldwell recorded the deed for the George Caldwell tract and the land was eventually distributed to the named heirs in the same proportions described by George Caldwell's will. Widow Sarah, sons George, Thomas, and Henry, daus Jane, Marrey (to be schooled), and Agnes." [Pat's comments]
>> This would suggest that Jane (Phillips) Caldwell died and George remarried a Sarah with whom he had six children. Other data floating around leads me to believe that George and Jane came to America with at least one son, a William, who would have been born by no later than 1720.
"Is this George the brother of John Caldwell settler of Cub Creek? John was b. 1683, and would have been 60 in 1743. Previous secondary information gives John's brother George b. 1690, and wife Jane Phillips; and that he died in
Ireland. George b. 1690 would be 52 in 1743. The George who died in Amelia County, provides for the schooling of a daughter, Mary. Could be, but need more proof."
I've seen the secondary information from "Descendents of Daniel Martin" by Gee, where it is suggested that George died in Ireland and his widow remarried to Thomas Dougherty and left Ireland landing in America in 1727.
Unfortunately, I have never seen this document and would go so far as to suggest that "Caldwell" wasn't the main focus of study to this author. I would tend to go with, unless someone can prove different, the Mrs. John Q. Anderson book and/or the research of Edith Greisser which both state that George did come to America.
The additional info posted makes no reference to Jane, only a wife Sarah, and a wife Mary (Coldwell), which leads me to believe that this George would not be the brother of Cub Creek John.
I do think that you may have something there in the quit claim deed of James Buckley. This seems to fit time and space more closely, I feel, than the other notes.
My earliest verified ancestor, Joseph, was born abt. 1740 and I have gathered other data through "extended family" that suggests that George, brother of John was his grandfather, and that his father was William, son of George and Jane who accompanied them to America as a young (7-8) boy.
My ancestor, Joseph, is the same from the 1802 Westmoreland Co., PA Will. That's pretty much what I've been able to verify so far. I've got my line online at http://caldwellgenealogy.com if you're interested. ;)
Thanks again, and I'll be sure to share with you anything that I can find. It's kind of rough doing it all from California.
I may be able to find out more when I make a pilgrimage next spring to the original family homestead in Iowa next spring. That should be fun. My father used to spend time on the farm when he was a boy, but I don't ever recall seeing it. It still remains in family hands as a working farm, which is pretty cool, and I'm really looking forward to seeing relatives that remember me as a baby.

Hi Carmen, I'd love to see what you have on the suspected George brother of John. I looked through your post again and maybe overlooked it. I've seen a "Sarah" floating around "George" before. Could this have been a second wife?
I haven't gotten too far in "George", so anything you have would be great!
Thanks,

Hey Audrey, Do you have any data on Cub Creek John's brother George?

Thanks for the info, Jim. Unfortunately, I don't have much on George, either. I'm trying to confirm a son to George and Jane, William, who would have been born no later than 1720.
I have seen other data (can't put my fingers on it right now) that suggests that this William, son of George, may have had brothers James and Robert. If the James listed in the Company #4 roster was George's son, could the William also have been a son of George?
Of course, William also had sons, Joseph, James, Robert, and William. Confusing enough, but at least I'm not trying to sort Johns.... lol.... Daughters of William, who married an Elizabeth, were Mary, Elinor, Martha, and Agness.
Of William's sons, I am still trying to verify that his Joseph is also mine. I have some limited data on Robert and family, and sketchy stuff on James and family.
Thanks again,
John
I want to thank you for your offer, which I'm sure you're probably over
whelmed. My grandfather was Richard Thomas Caldwell, born in 1868 somewhere
in Va. or Ky. Died 1932 in Evansville, Ind.The only thing else Iknow is his
father was John from Va. .Any help will be appreciated.

Audrey,
I received your posting about you having Caldwell wills on your computer and
your unselfish offer to give them to people. I respectfully request any
information you may have on the following:
Harold Neal Caldwell, born October 1933 or 1934. He is my father. He passed
away in January 1980 in Texas and was buried in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His wife's
name is Mary Ann with whom he had three boys: Christopher, David and Stephen.
He was married to my mother, Helen Villagomez in the 1950's when he had
three girls: Linda Marie (myself), Vivian Sue and Carmen Diane.
If you have any will information for my father I would truly appreciate if
you would send it to me. Thank you for any possible help.
Linda Marie Caldwell Hickman
Audrey: I would like to know more about the below mentioned
book. Publisher and is it still in print? Also does it mention the
Eagle Wing ship.
Thanks

He died in 1752 and was buried at that place. He was a brother to John CALDWELL who married Margaret PHILIPS. He married in 1718.

Alexander CALDWELL, son of Andrew and Ann CALDWELL, brother of Rev David CALDWELL, b. in Lancaster co, PA, married and moved to NC (settled at Buffalo Creek - 1771) before the Rev War. He took an active part in the war, served under GREENE, and contracted 'camp fever'. After the Battle of Guilford Courthouse (Fall of 1780-Feb 1781). He left a widow and 7 children (3 sons and 4 daughters), who, as soon as estate could be settled and the land sold to advantage after the conclusion of peace, removed to Greene Co, TN, where the widow died 1818-1839.
Note from Audrey: This is a repeat and am not sure why, but left as is just in case something is a bit different.
John CALDWELL, brother to Alexander and Rev David CALDWELL, never married, but died at the paternal residence some years after the Rev War. The constitution of John was much impaired by hardships he endured in camp during year 1777-8.
