Hello,
Thought I should get this posted to those lists that haven't seen it and to those that a bit of time has passed since I posted.
My father was orphaned and never found his family. I therefore have not known my father's family either. He did not stay with his adoptive family.
He is gone now and I am carrying on his search for him and for myself. I have always wanted to know the family my father and I lost. I will send a bit of info in case it rings a bell out there.
My Father.....SIM CALDWELL.....born March 11, 1903...Pineville KY (he said Leslie Co. but I found later that
it is in Bell Co. His mother died about 1906 and he and his full younger brother DANIEL
CALDWELL, 2 of his 3 half brothers and 1 sister were placed in an Orphanage around 1910 at
age 7. He was adopted by EDWARD and LILLIAN CRAIG from Flaggsprings KY about 1914. Never
took their name. DANIEL was adopted by a Boston couple. My dad was young so the memories
may be confused a bit like his birthday. On his SS# app. it says, June 15, 1903.
His Father.....JAMES CALDWELL ........no info
His mother.... ELIZABETH CALDWELL no info. I have recently been sent a marriage license for a
that showed a SIM CALDWELL born in Bell County 1902 if I figured it right. The date of the
application is Dec. 9, 1925. and it states that his age is 23. This is the first time I have seen
a name for my grandmother on a doc. only it isn't ELIZABETH like my father had told me and
whom I was named after??? It reads: Names of Parents of Husband: MAY CALDWELL and
JAMES CALDWELL. I don't know how much my dad remembered.
Name of wife: OMA MAE FANCHER age 38. Surname DENNIS.
He was in The Kentucky State Children's Home (which closed) in Louisville but like I said, he was there from age 7 to age 10. Very young.
Thank you for Any help you can offer. I can't tell you what a blessing it would be to find my paternal family.
In Hope,
ELIZABETH LEE CALDWELL

My sister and I have been researching our Caldwell relatives who originated in Kentucky, (Lincoln County, Danvile area) , David Rice Caldwell and wife Mary Moore, who traveled to Honey Grove in Fannin County, Texas and farmed from about 1859-1880 before moving up into Herfano County, Colorado, Gardner and Colorado Springs area, to be exact, to ranch.
I do not have any dates for James or any of his children except Jackson, who
was born in 1807.
Sorry, I didn't realize that I did not give any dates at all! Thanks
I would appreciate any information on James Caldwell.
James Caldwell married Sarah Hunnicutt and had eleven children: Susan,
Robert, Mary, Jackson, Claiborne, James, Alexander, Granville, Margaret,
Elizabeth, and Jefferson.
I am particularly intersted in who and where he came from.
Thank you,
Evelyn
Evelyn,
Do you have any other info re James Caldwell, date born, date died?

I have a Mary Caldwell, born about 1648 in England who married William
Hedges, born about 1651 in London County, England and died Dec. 1678 in
Millcreek, New Castle County, Delaware. They were married about 1672 in
London County, England.
That's all I know about Mary. I do wish our ancestors were a little more
creative with names and they all seemed to use the same names over and over,
making it very difficult for us to track them down! :-)

Okay guys, this just isn't true and history shows it. This is one of those eternally perpetuated "Caldwell Myths". I won't waste a lot of space or time here, but if you're interested I've got about 10 pages (complete with sources) online at http://venicebeach.com/caldwell/cromwell.html

Diana,
Do you have any more details about the Pierce line? My father's grandmother was Lina Jane Pierce of Delaware b. Nov. 15, 1859. Her father was Henry J. Pierce b. Sept. 10, 1813. Wendy
Hey Barbara, That was me looking for George Caldwell m. Jane Phillips. ;)
What I have is;
George b. 1689, d. 1779.
Jane Phillips b. abt. 1690
married 9 May, 1712 IRE
In "Descendents of Daniel Martin" by Gee, it is suggested that George died in Ireland and his widow remarried to Thomas Dougherty and left Ireland landing in America in 1727.
However, the Caldwell book by Mrs. John Q. Anderson, dated December, 1959, p. 25 states "George Caldwell, b. 1689 m. Jane Phillips and came to America."
Edith Greisser is on record as stating, "George Caldwell, son of Joseph Caldwell and Jane McGhie, was born 1690, married Jane Phillips, a sister to Margaret Phillips, and came to America, date not known. If he traveled with his wife's sister and his brother, then he came to America 12/10/1727 living at first in New Castle Deleware, then to Chestnut Level in Lancater Co. Pa. and by 1740 in Cub Creek, Va. I would think George was at the age to fight in the French/Indian War."
The only descendant of George and Jane that I have, and it hasn't been verified, is a son, William, who m. an Elizabeth. Children of William & Elizabeth are said to have been;
Joseph b. abt. 1730 (said to be my line)
James
Robert b. abt. 1743
William
Mary b. abt. 1741
Elinor
Martha
Agness
Anything that you might have would be most appreciated.
Catch ya soon,
John

Elizabeth,
My uncle is Mormon and a genealogist. He told me a few years ago that
some of their churches were setting up local libraries. You might ask a
local congregation if they have a genealogy resource room.
