Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I haven's quite got my CALDWELL line back that far yet so you never
know. We'll keep in touch.
Do you have any Lane family names down there. It seems a Charles S.Lane
had a Jewelry/China store in Angelica or nearby?

Henry Caldwell was my Husbands Great Grandfather. It is a farm that was
his. I'm not sure if another Caldwell owned it before him. He had 3
brothers - James B. (they called him Byrd) (b. 10/3/1849, d. 10/26/1884),
Weld (b. 5/15/1851, d. ?), and Carson (b. 8/3/1858, d. 7/28/1895). Their
father was James Caldwell, born 6/12/1815 in Allegany ( I think County
but there is also an Allegany town in Cattaraugus County) NY. He is
buried in Farmersville (Cattaraugus County). James married Mary (Polly)
Hayford, born 1/22/1843. She was from Allegany County, Her father John
Hayford and her mother Lydia Brown Hayford.
It seems this may have been a sickly family as they all died fairly
young back then, the males anyway. I doubt that the Caldwell name is
carried on much in this family as Henry had an only daughter that married
a LANE. James Byrd died at the age of 35, Carson died at the age of
about 37, and I don't know much about WELD. His name was on our deed as
being an owner of part of the land at one time. I'll have to ask my Aunt
Edie. She gave me all the information from an old family bible. It will
be a few days as I am going to Buffalo (Alden/Lancaster) today to search
my mothers family name WALTER while my husband takes a train ride to
Syracuse and back.
If anything sounds familiar, keep in touch.

I can't find anything in my database on those families in Allegany County.
The family that I think was originally the topic of this thread was
of a James F. Caldwell (b. 5/23/1835 in Arlington, VT), son of Isaac
Coman Caldwell. Their son Frederick James was born in VT in 1861,
although they are on the E. Greenwich, NY 1895 directory. That might
just be where they were listed, not where they actually lived.
Aside from the northeast & north central NY families, I also have
Caldwells that lived in extreme southwest NY, but none around
Allegany Co. that I can find so far. The name Abel doesn't "sound"
like it would be of this family, but I could be wrong.
Rich Caldwell
I live in Farmersville. We live on the Caldwell farm. I would love to
share info. What town do you live in?

Louis,
I don't know where you live, but I live in Allegany County, New York, and my
mother's maiden name is Caldwell. Her family is from Pennsylvania, but have
lived in Allegany County for approx. 55 years. I have research on this
family if it would help.

I was looking through some notes I had taken ? Some time ago. In a book
called History of Allegany County, NY, there was mention of Several
CALDWELL's. There was mention of James CALDWELL Pg 313 retired farmer b.
7/31/1794 Rockingham VT. This is near to where my CALDWELL family lived.
Does it ring a bell with anyone? It says he came to Caneadea in 1820,
moved to Hume in 1834. Justice of the Peace in Caneadea for 12 years,
Supervisor of Town 8 years, Postmaster 10 years.
Other names mentioned on my paper are:
Rev. Abel Caldwell pg 326 (New Hudson),
J.E. Caldwell Pg 326 (New Hudson),
Addison Caldwell Pg 128 (Hume) died 11/4/1862,
Mrs. Betsey Freer (of Mayfield Fulton County) Caldwell Pg 313 Wife of
James,
Mrs. Emily Caldwell Pg 313 wife of Monroe, Monroe Caldwell Pg 313, son of
James Caldwell b. 5/16/1842 Hume married 12/25/1872 to Emily Houghton of
Canedea. He was a farmer in Fillmore.
Also, from the Cuba Patriot, Friday June 2nd, 1882 Vol 21 No 22
James Caldwell, a drunk was put in jail (Bolivar Lockup) early Friday PM
at 7:00. When the doors of the Bastile were open, Caldwell was found
dead.
Black Creek Cemetery
Mary Caldwell wife of Rev. Abal Caldwell d. 4/1849 age 29 years

Seeking info on William Caldwell of Monroe County, Alabama. He may be the
father of Mary Ann Caldwell Kennedy who was born about 1822, & married
Stephen Kennedy in 1839 in Monroe Co., AL. William appears on the 1830 &
1840 Monroe County census.....the only Caldwell/Colwell. I know that
searching for anyone of a particular surname whose first name is William is
like searching for a needle in a haystack...but, I'm hoping that somebody may
be able to identify this particular William Caldwell.
Thanks.
Mel
Hi Rich, thanks for taking the time to look for my Charles Caldwell. What's
intriguing to me is that this very old photo has apparently been passed down
thru my dad's family, and why would we have that photo of the Caldwell house
in Ipswich if there wasn't a connection with those Caldwells? Hmmmm. Well,
I keep looking! Thanks again for your help. Linda
The only thing I could find for Stewart Co. is the reg of Deeds, has land rec
from 1803. Everything else was burned during the civil war, which you are
prob well aware of. I guess you have had no luck with census records. Lots
of people went to TN from the Carolina's.
The best I can do for you is: a book The Pioneers of Main and New Ham;shire
1623-1660. Baltimore: Genealogical Pub. Co. 1965
William M Sargent. Main Wills 1670-1760 Portland Maine. Brown, Thurston &
Co. 1887.
Louis Clint Hatch. Maine: A History. New York: American Historical
Society, 1919.
Michael Denis. Main Towns and Counties: What Was What, Where and When.
Oakland, Maine: Danbury House 1988
Have you checked the LDS library? They have lots of books, and you can some
times get them to make a film on it.

I would like to contact anyone whose CALDWELL family was in TN around Stewart
Co. in 1840 to 1860, and then ended up in southern IL, around Pope Co. by
1870-80. My great grandfather, William Augustus CALDWELL,b.1862, TN, lived
many years in Pope Co., IL, married to Emma GOLDEN (in 1886 when he was 24).
I can't locate his father and mother (G.W. CALDWELL and M.A. NELSON). I
would like to know more about William. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.
Regina
Hello List, I'm trying to link my ggg-grandfather, Charles Grandison
Caldwell (b. 6-11-1823 in New York d. 12-21-1912 in Wisconsin) with John
Caldwell and Sarah Dillingham, original Caldwells who settled in Ipswich, MA.
I know there must be a connection because I have an old photo of the
Caldwell house in Ipswich, built around 1633 (and which is still standing)
that has a note with it, written by my great aunt, which says that my
grandfather is related to John and Sarah. However, I'm missing several
generations in between them and Charles. Would anyone have a Caldwell
genealogy book that could help me? Thanks so much! Linda Colton

I am a Caldwell from Northern Kentucky, not sure if connected to the same
line but very possible. Would like to know the link to your website.
There is a way, if he wants to be found. You have your birth certificate?
You can write a short letter to him, letting him know you want to see him.
Send the birth certificate with the letter and with a self addressed &
stamped envelope to the Social Securtiy Office nearest you. They can forward
it on to him. They will not tell you anything unless he is deceased and I
guess they would tell you that. Good Luck
