Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
In my family, I believe the name came from the ESDALE family. It looks
like my Grizzel had a maternal aunt with the same name. I think you are
right about the anglo version of the name. On my fathers side of the
family there were a couple switches. Andreas/Andrew, Hendrina/Helen.

I received the following message concerning the speakers that have been
announced for the genealogy weekend coming up Apr. 27-29, 2001 at Pine
Mountain State Park, Pineville KY.
Melva Boggs-Pearce
"I've secured Dr. Ron Bryant, Genealogical Specialist, Kentucky History
Center and Jim Prichard, Kentucky Libraries & Archives Research Room
Supervisor as speakers! There will be sessions on war records, naming
patterns, becoming a genealogical detective and some panel discussions
(interactive with participants)."

Hi Liz... et al!
Best I can remember, & that's not too good, either, that jamboree was a Boy
Scouts of America National Jamboree that took place in the 1950's. My
brother & I were both into scouting then when Dad asked me to go along, but
I had something going on (that I can't recall) so he took my brother. From
there they ventured to New Jersey to visit some relatives Dad had written
to/from & that's about all I know. Dad died late in 1999 so I can't ask him
details, & Mom never took an interest in genealogy. Someday, I hope to have
available the time to dig deeper. Dad was one of the few volunteers to earn
the coveted Silver Beaver Award, & I have that around here someplace...
among a whole lot of stuff I refused to let get destroyed after Dad's
passing. The city of Trenton comes to mind, but that may not mean anything.
I don't know if any Caldwell, NJ residents are related to us, or not.
Thanks for the chatter... yeah... I know all about that "1st thing to go...
& I can't remember the 2nd..." ;-)
Later, Dave

Can anyone on the List definitely connect to this CALDWELL of Bartow Co, GA?
Audrey
CALDWELL, Matthew, b 3 June 1794, Halifax Co, VA, was the eldest son to
reach manhood of David and Elizabeth (TANNER) CALDWELL. In Jasper Co, GA he
was married to Mourning SATTERWHITE on 2 september 1813 by Joel WILLIS, M.G.
"Parents of "Monning" have not been found, however, in the 1850 census,
Jasper Co, GA census the family of Dawson SATTERWHITE, age 54, b. GA, is
enumerated. Perhaps he was a sibling of Mourning. She was b. in GA 1795
and died after the 1880 census Bartow Co, GA.
Matthew CALDWELL & Mourning SATTERWHITE:
Children:
1. John CALDWELL, b. ca. 1814, Jasper Co, GA
2. Elizabeth Ann CALDWELL, b. 25 September 1816, Jasper Co, GA
3. Rebecca CALDWELL, b. 10 March 1818, Jasper Co, GA
4. * David Satterwhite CALDWELL, b. ca 1823, Jasper Co, GA
5. Nancy CALDWELL, b. ca 1824-25, probably Upson Co, GA
6. Martha CALDWELL, b. ca 1827, Upson Co, GA
7. Amy CALDWELL, b. ca 1830, Upson Co, GA
8. Lucy CALDWELL, b. ca 1832, GA
9. George W. CALDWELL, b. ca 1836, GA
*David Satterwhite CALDWELL, b. ca 1823, Jasper Co, GA, married in Troup Co,
GA, Elizabeth PULLEN on 4 May 1843, by Robert W. SLEDGE, JP. They moved to
St Clair Co, AL, and later settled in the Henderson area of Rusk Co, TX.
Presumably Elizabeth CALDWELL died between 1870 and 1872 inasmuch as David
S. CALDWELL was married to Mrs. Elizabeth ROBERTSON on 24 August 1872 in
Rusk Co, TX where the family moved between 1863 and 1870.
Children:
1. Sarah A. CALDWELL, b. ca 1844, Troup Co, GA
2. Mary A. CALDWELL, b. ca 1846, Troup Co, GA
3. Francis M. CALDWELL, b. ca 1848, Troup Co, GA
4. Thomas J. CALDWELL, b. ca 1850, Troup Co, GA
5. *Martha CALDWELL, b. ca 1852, Troup Co, GA
6. Elijah CALDWELL, b. ca 1857, Troup Co, GA
7. Ella J. CALDWELL, b. 1860, AL
8. Jovema (?) M. CALDWELL, b. ca 1863, AL
*I believe Martha CALDWELL, b. 1852, is our Martha Ellen Victoria CALDWELL,
b. 1852, married 1871, Bartow Co, GA to Joseph Spencer STEPP. The CALDWELL
book doesn't give anymore on this Martha, and the person who compiled the
book doesn't seem to think she is ours. However, the POOL family was next
door in Smith Co, TX, to Henderson and Rusk Counties, TX.
Jesse Elizabeth STEPP d/o Martha E. V. CALDWELL and Joseph Spencer STEPP is
our grandmother.
It is thought in the family that Martha died in OK, but I have gleaned
Sequoia County (or Territory) for grave stones, cemtery records, etc. and
she cannot be found. (aep=Audrey Ellen Pool)
I'm searching for word of BENJAMIN FRANCIS CALDWELL s of John H. and Rosanna
CALDWELL, b c1837 IN, m 23 Aug 1855 to Lucinda LIMING in Hancock Co IN.
Benjamin went to the California gold fields in 1859 and was divorced in
absentia by Lucinda 6 Jan 1869. He died in Humboldt Co CA in 1875. Did he
have another family in the west?
A friend of mine is researching a line of Caldwells that emigrated from
England/Ireland in the mid-1800's. The earliest known Caldwell relative was
an Irish sailor (possibly raised in Warrenspoint, County Down) by the name
of Richard William CALDWELL b. 21 Sept 1850 (England)
f. John Caldwell (Ireland/England) m.Julia Flynn (Ireland).
m. 2nd w. Emily Taite, 02 February 1904
d. 11 Dec 1940 Bay City, MI, US
sp. 1st wife - ?
2nd wife - Emily Tait (Taite) (Ireland)
f. Robert Tait (Ireland) m. Elizabeth Scott (Scotland/Ireland)
He jumped ship and settled in New York City in the 1870's. I know that
Richard William had at least three brothers and a sister (James, John,
Louie, and Hannah) but I have never been able to directly link him to any
previously researched British/US Caldwell line. Louie and Hannah followed
Richard to the US and settled in New York City. Richard William worked for
the Cunard Steamship line for a number of years. He and his wife, Emily,
left New York City and moved to Akron, Michigan abt 1920.
Hi Dave or should I say Dr. Dave, just kidding! OK, let's talk memory. What
Jamboree??? Of all the things I've lost I miss my memory the most!
Elizabeth

Hello,
Just joined the group this past week...and I am looking for anyone that may have similar ancestors or information there of.
Margaret Jane Caldwell b. abt 1852 unknown location. She married a William Heaney, unk date or location of marriage. In 1895, we can place them in either Dunstable or Lowell Massachusetts. There daughter, my grandmother Edith Ruby Heaney, was then born. I haven't been able to locate any documents thus far in Massachusetts system, so I turn to you...and maybe this is where I should have started.
Anyway, I have info on Edith, but not her parents; William Heaney and Margaret Jane Caldwell. I would appreicate any help.
Thanks,
Bill

Alexander CALDWELL's sons Robert, William and John settled in Campbell Co
KY, having moved there from"old" Frederick Co VA - Berkeley Co (W) VA in
the late 1700s. Alexander may have had a brother Andrew, also of the
Frederick-Berkely Co area. They were closely allied with the GOSNEY and
COLVIN families. Although names repeat among the families, I suspect that
Alexander's father may be Robert CALDWELL of Chester Co PA who died in 1767,
naming these sons in his will: John, William, Robert, and Alexander. Any
comments? Am I wrong??? Thanks.
