Subject: [CALDWELL-L] James of Walker Co Ga.
> Donna,
>
> I did some research on this family a few years ago. James was listed on
the Gwinnett Co Ga census (1820) on the same page as my Curtis CALDWELL. I
thought he was a brother to Curtis, however after lots of research I decided
he isn't. Any way I have James and Margaret was md 25 July 1799 Abbeville
Co SC. They were in Gwinnett Ga by 1820. He drew land in Houston Co Ga in
the 1821 land lottery while living in Gwinnett. He sold this land 23 Sep
1826, sale states James is of Fayett Co Ga. By 1830 he has moved to Coweta
Co Ga. His son John was married in Coweta Co 29 Jul 1828. Then by 1840 he
was in Walker.
>
> I have info on some of his descendants (I only have names for 6 of his 8
children) but can't find who his parents are. I have the same parents for
Margaret HAMILTON as you, and that she was born 25 Jul 1775 in Pendleton
Dist. SC.

George-since you bear the name of my great grandfather, my great-great
grandfather, and my uncle, all of whom I can find nothing about, I am
inclined to ask you some questions.
1. You say from one who stayed here(in reference to Mattie of TX) are you
in TX?
2. If so, are you related to Edward?
3. If not, are you by any chance, or your relatives from the East Coast?
4. Do you mind giving your parents names?
My grandfather was John Charles Caldwell, brother to Walter, Edward, &
George. Son of George Caldwell, grandson of George Caldwell. I know that
they came from either Ireland by way of Scotland, or Scotland by way of
Ireland(which is the way I think it was) and my grandfather was born in MA.
Sorry for so many questions in one.

Hi List, My Caldwell ancestor is a bit elusive, and even though I have
information about him, I've been trying to link him back to John and Sarah
Caldwell from Ipswitch, MA...Here's the story...
Charles Grandison Caldwell b. 6-11-1823 in Oswegatchie, NY; d. 12-12-1912 and
buried in DeSoto, WI. He was married to Wealthy Curtis on 7-20-1845. she
was b. 1-8-1826 in Willsboro, Essex Co. NY, d. 2-5-1898, and is also buried
in DeSoto, WI. They had a daughter Adelia, who married my g-g-grandfather,
Edward Coy. Now, I've been trying to connect Charles with the Ipswitch bunch
because I have a very old photo of the Caldwell house in Ipswitch, which has
been handed down in my family, which says on the back of it, in, I think my
great-aunt's handwriting, whose house it was (John and Sarah Caldwell,) and
a lot more about the history of the house and family. And it makes mention
that John Caldwell is related to my grandfather. Does anyone have any of
the genealogy from John and Sarah, that could help me link my Charles to
them?? Any information would be greatly appreciated. By the way, that
Caldwell house in Ipswitch is still standing!! Linda
Hi, my brick wall is Ada Caldwell, b. abt 1880 possibly in Williamson Co, TN. Married Carroll Green Sullivan in 1899, in Williamson Co, TN and died in childbirth on March 7, 1909. Can't find a trace of her family. Any help out there?
Merry Christmas
Christie
In response to the post I made re my deadend Caldwell, I receive a virus
attachment from a Joan Schwabrow on the Caldwell list. I couldn't get the
email address without completely opening the email. I've deleted it.
Jerry
According to Roberts tombstone he came to America in 1788 at the age of 4
from County Antrim, Ireland. His fathers name may have been James and his
mothers madden name may have been Margaret Findley.
According to one story about 1819 James moved to Forkland, AL.
Some of the old Caldwell use to visit relatives in AL. None of Roberts
descendants moved to AL.
I have no idea who Robert arrived with. A 4 year old did not make the trip
alone. He may have had siblings who moved to AL.
My mother was a SC Caldwell who married a MS Caldwell and this is my mothers
line.
John
In 1834 William Cooper gave permission for his daughter Martha Jane Cooper
to marry John Beard Caldwell in Lawrence Co., MS. John and Martha were
living in Hancock Co., MS in 1840. Do not know where they were after 1840.
According to census John was born in Scotland.
What I would like know more about Major Caldwell.
Also would like to know where John was after 1840.
John and Martha had two sons that I know of. George William Anderson
Caldwell born in 1841 in MS and Robert Clay Caldwell born in 1853 possibly
in AL. I know the descendants of George that is my line. I have some data on
Roberts descendants. I assume George and Robert had siblings and would like
to know who they were.
John
My deadend among the Caldwells is James Oscar Caldwell, b: 1824-27 prob in
NY, m: Mary Elizabeth White b: 1850 Muskingum Co., OH. They had a son Oscar
Gardner Caldwell b: 25 Jul 1870, m: Ida Mae Graummans in Ohio.
This group may be related to the ones posted by Barbara Cox.
Any clues would be appreciated.

Someone posted something about the Caldwell's being grumpy. My father was "Uptight". I have had to work on my quick temper which I have heard is a Caldwell trait. I am doing very well now thank you very much so ,LEAVE ME ALONE!! Just KIDDING!! ;o)))))))
Anyway, as you can see the large type catches ones attention. It helps when you post surnames also. It works for yelling in print too if your a CALDWELL with an attitude!#$@%^& ;o))) SMILE ;o)))) Happy Holidays!

My most elusive CALDWELL is the father of Martha Jane "Mattie" CALDWELL.
This great-great-great-grandfather, according to census records, was
born in
Tennessee. Based on Mattie's birth in 1848 in Alabama, her father would
most probably have been born before 1828.
????CALDWELL was married to Ruth GREENWOOD (born in Alabama) according
to
Mattie's death records.
My first record of Mattie is when she married William B. SPARKS in
Hopkins
County, TX, in November, 1870. Now you'd think she'd be in the 1870
census
for TX, wouldn't you? Can't find her or her family. I've considered
that
perhaps her father died in the Civil War and maybe her mother remarried,
but
that's pure speculation.
Can anyone help with this elusive ancestor?

Hunting season is all year long in genealogy
I am setting at my brick wall with Allen Albert Caldwell/Amanda Ellen
Beard.
Still there is good news, for I was fortunate too connect with the
grandson of one of my grandfathers (Samuel Jesse Caldwell) brothers
(Charles Harry Caldwell).
What a new page this has open for me as I had no idea that my grandfather
had any siblings! Talk about families keeping to themselves! LOL
Charles Harry Caldwell has three children still living, three in Iowa yet
& one in California.
I made a trip too Iowa last year & was united with some wonderful
relatives. I cannot believe that all along they had lived but an hour
from our home in Des Moines Iowa.
In conclusion, my brick wall may still remain with Allen Albert Caldwell/
Amanda Ellen Beard, but what a pleasant experience too meet three of my
dads first cousins!
I am still wondering where the other siblings might have went too?
William Elmer Caldwell
Dora Marie Caldwell
Johnnie Caldwell
Sarah Jane Caldwell
Gilbert Caldwell
Mable Ellen Caldwell
By the way, I was lead too believe that all Caldwell's had short or hot
tempers which took me many years too control! LOL

HI! Paul:
Yes, did any of your Robert Caldwell's move or settle in Holt County,
Missouri? I list on my pedigree lines a Robert Caldwell from Holt County,
Missouri. One of his daughters was named Laura E. Caldwell and the time
period in question is 1876 - 1880.
Thanks for your help.
Ken in Utah
Family records give his name as Hampton Caldwell, but he appears on the census as James H. or J. H. He is on the census of Leake County, MS in 1860 and 1880. In 1900 his widow Elizabeth is living in Leake County with a grandson. The 1870 census appears to be incomplete for the district where he lived. ( Either the census taker missed a lot of people or the ink faded so that the records are not readable.)
He was born about 1818 or 1820 in South Carolina. The 1880 Census list his father's birth place as Ireland and his mother's birth place as Virginia. His wife Elizabeth was born in Mississippi.
Can anyone give me any more information? Who were his parents? When did he come to MS? What was his wife's maiden name? Any help would be appreciated.
