Yes, there were some Caldwells in Caldwell, Idaho. My grandfather, Claude
Herbert Caldwell was born and raised in Caldwell. His father was George W.
Caldwell from Bethany, MO. George's father, John or Vernon Caldwell was from
Vermont but had lived most of time in Wisconsin.

Well, I have heard of a number of 3 brothers moving to this country. W e
have not found our Caldwell's to my satisfaction. They seem to start in SC.
With one Caldwell line and we were scattered thru the years. Most Westward
and at least one to CA area. We have a quite a number of Caldwell descendant
here in the pacific North West. There was one that went to Idaho early. (I
have not determined just when) There is a town called Caldwell in Idaho, and
everytime I go thru there I wonder. Good luck on your hunting. Wilma
Hi: I've been on this list for a while. But today changed my information.
Before this the information I had came from an elderly aunt.
I found a tape made by my dad, now deceased. He made it back in the 1970's
to me about our Caldwell history.
He said our Caldwell line traced back to 3 Caldwell brothers who came to
America in the 1700's. One was named John- and settled in the Mass. area.
One, Charles, moved to what is now the midwest. The other, my line, was
William Caldwell who settled in VA.
He did not have a name for William's wife. Said they apparently had several
children, but our line was from a son, William Caldwell, Jr.
When Wm. Jr was a young man, he rode his horse over the mountains and
settled in the Vanceburg, KY area. There he met Jane Burton, and they
married. They moved on up to what is now the Boyd County, KY area - and
settled in what was called Elton/Bear Creek - Friendship community.
And that's where the rest of my line is from. Boyd County, Ky.
Anyone else from any of these 3 brothers lines?

I do not know if your JOHN CALDWELL goes to the JOHN & MARGARET PHILLIPS
CALDWELl who formed the Cub Creek CALDWELL Settlement or not. I am aware of
a JOHN CALDWELL, JR. line who came out of this Settlement as one of their
children who came to Adair Co. KY, but his Brother, ROBERT, came to Obion
Co., TN, then came on to Adair Co., KY Columbia, as did one of one ancestors
connected to this group. Do not know if there is any kind of connection
here?
There are so many JOHN's belonging to the line, tis hard to keep which JOHN
is which JOHN to which line.

I would not be direct to your line, but if your line goes to the JOHN &
MARGARET PHILLIPS CALDWELL line, then we would we collateral lines, and would
be in common to JOHN & MARGARET. I believe I go thru their youngest son, the
REV.
JAMES CALDWELL, who was murdered by the British in 1781 in Elizabeth, NJ who
was born in 1734 in VA (believe in Charlotte Co.) at the Settlement or in the
area.
Thru his son, WILLIAM, who died in 1825 in Adair County, KY and came there
because JOHN, JR. and another Uncle, ROBERT, were there in the area.
I've had a few requests for information about my John Caldwell (father of

John E. Caldwell was a brother of my GGGrandmother, Minerva Caldwell
McSpadden. I can provide lots of info on John E.'s siblings and their
descendants, and some information on a couple of previous generations.
