Hello,
I am trying to find any information on my great grandmother Minerva CALDWELL
who was born July 10,1881 at Jackson or could possibly be Jackson Ridge,New
York. She married a Robert Borden JOHNSON on Oct. 29,1899 at Shushan,New
York. They had 2 daughters Edna and Alice Emmeline(my grandmother). Minerva
died Sept. 25,1904 at the age of 23. After her death Robert sent Edna to
Minerva's parents and Alice was sent to his parents in Nova Scotia. Robert
was born in Nova Scotia in 1878.
According to their marriage certificate(which my mother has) Minerva's
parents were Fred J. CALDWELL and Mary E. BEVIS. I would love to find some
information regarding these families as no one in the family has any
information on them.
Many thanks,
Cindy Donovan
Alberta

I am sorry I do not have anything on your CALDWELL-TRAIN line. I believe I
go to the JOHN & MARGARET PHILLIPS CALDWELL who came to American thru DE,
about 1727 from Derry County, Ireland. I am collecting all CALDWELL
information anyway in the hopes of connecting others. Do you have who any of
the Irish ancestors are?
JEAN CALDWELL ADAMS

JOHN & MARGARET PHILLIPS CALDWELL line formed the Cub Creek Settlement
in Charlotte Co., VA about 1738 or 1742, leaving PA because of conflicts
with the
German Dutch Reformed also in Lancaster Co., PA. This line branched out to KY
through some of the children's lines, others went to NC-SC-GA-MS then to TX.
My direct left VA about 1830 to go to IL, then on to WVA, then to OH
(Cleveland)
where my Father & Mother are buried.
I have connected with a DEBBIE HAMILTON who lives in Canada who has CALDWELLS
- do not know if ALL the ones that came to Canada also went to the
JOHN & MARGARET PHILLIPS CALDWELL line that established the Cub Creek
CALDWELL Settlement in Charlotte County, (formerly Lunenberg) about 1738 or
1742. She goes to the JOHN CALDWELL, JR. line, one of this JOHN & MARGARET
CALDWELL's children. I believe I go thru the youngest child, REV. JAMES
CALDWELL, for whom CALDWELL, New Jersey is named and where he is
buried. This JAMES was murdered by the British in 1781 in Elizabeth, NJ.
Both JOHN JR. and the son of this REV. JAMES, a WILLIAM, went to Adair
County, KY Columbia, about 1809 and is where my WILLIAM died in 7-5-1825.
Do not know if you cannot connect to this line or not.

It is a new year and time to see if all of the new readers ( or any of
them ) have anything on the Caldwell/Coldwell line that came to Canada.
James Coldwell m. Margaret McDougal
Son Robert b. Berwickshire 1802

Elizabeth Lauder White b. 1805 Dalkeith Scotland.
Robert and Elizabeth had 7 children
Of these children my wife Doreen is a descendant of their second noted child
Ellen ( Helen ) Coldwell b.1828 in Edinburough
m. 1847
Alexander Watt b. 1822 in Fraserburgh Scotland
This family along with Helen's parents and siblings came to Canada 1828-1830
and settled in what is now Ontario.
Anyone else looking at this line??

I would like information on MARGARET TRAIN married to ANDREW CALDWELL-
they lived in Kent County, Deleware and had a daughter AGNES "ANNES"
CALDWELL
born about 1710 -Wicomico River,Somerset County, Maryland - died after
1792.
ANNES married JOSEPH SKIDMORE - they are the parents of CAPTAIN JOHN
SKIDMORE
and SARAH SKIDMORE wife of JONAS FRIEND.

Certainly you can enter my Caldwell clan of Caldwell, Noble county, Ohio.
Robert, b. 1762 - Chester Co. Pa

Jane Fulton, b. 1769 - PA
Had eleven children all reaching maturity and generating many, many, many,
more children.
I am seventh generation of this Family.
George Robert Caldwell
badgerboy(a)earthlink.net
Samuel Caldwell born about 1780 drops down out of the mists - some say New
England....and lands in Tuscarawas Co., Ohio at the beginning of 1800 His
wife's given name was Love(a). Uncertain whether I have correct children
but at this point I think they might have been:
Alexander b. June 22, 1801 m. Elizabeth Cogan and ended up in Franklin Co.,
Ohio (my line!)
Dianna b. 1806 m. Tarlington B. Willoughby
Charlotte b. 1809 m. Nathan McBane
Levi b. 1810 m. Catherine Smith end up in Crane Twp, Wyandot Co. by 1850
Samuel b. 1812 m. Eleanor Couts
Clarissa Ann b. 1823 (a large gap!) m. Joseph Shaklee
So....altho we have an Ohio family.......their roots still seem to be in New
England.
My search there has turned up nothing. Was it Mass....or Ct. Who knows!
Who knows, indeed!
Phyllis in Atlanta
(born in Wyandot Co. and still a Buckeye at heart!)
While we're on the subject of Ohio CAldwells, maybe someone can help me with
the ones I'm hunting. My wife's paternal grandmother was Elsie Mae Caldwell
(1900-1976) of Toledo Ohio. I've identified her parents as Oscar G. Caldwell
(1869 - 1936) and Ida J. (Graummans); and Oscar's parents as James Oscar
Caldwell (1824 - ?)and Mary (White).
According to the Ohio census James Oscar Caldwell was born ca1824 in NY. His
wife, Mary White, was born in Ohio, and that's where both are buried.
I've been unable to push any further back and would like to contact anyone
who is working on his particular line.
Regards, Jerry Crumly, Pensacola, FL
Here is another Caldwell to throw in the pot. That is Margaret Caldwell who
was born around 1775 in Virginia, who married Mathias NICHOLS 28 Jan 1796
in Ohio Co VA.
Mathias died before his will was probated 8 Sept 1831 in Muskingum Co OH.
Some Nichols to Licking Co OH. Other Nichols moved to Davies Co MO.
Margaret Caldwell is my one and only Caldwell. I know very little about her
children, other than she didn't go to Wood Co OH with my ggggrandma.
Another of her children went to Morgan Co OH. Several married in Muskingum
Co from 1819-1830.
I can only guess at her origins having found no wills of her previous
generation linking her to them. Only know her people were probably in Ohio
Co VA at one time, and don't know if any of them came over to OH.

Sandy, you must have been gone over Christmas when I finally got brave and
asked if there were any Ohio Caldwell's? Well, there were and now you, too!
I am a descendant of Crawford Caldwell. According to a letter we received
in Dec. from another researcher, there is a history written by John Rice
Caldwell (ca 1907) John, James and Crawford, along with three sisters came to
Ohio from Ireland (between 1800-1805). We are all busy trying to verify the
older genealogy and we would welcome you to the group if you are interested?

I have a Robert Caldwell, born Newberry SC 11 Mar 1784, married Janette
McLees, daughter of Andrew Mclees of Newberry. They had six children there
and in the 1810s moved to Anderson County SC where they owned land near the
Dickson families on Generostie Creek. They were enumerated in the 1830 US
Census there. They moved on to GA in the 1830s and settled in Meriwether
County GA. Robert Caldwell died there on 11 Dec. 1844. Some researchers
believe this Robert Caldwell was a son of James Caldwell (8 July 1775
Charlotte VA - 1813 Newberry SC) whose lineage goes back to John Caldwell at
Cub Creek VA. I have not been able to make that connection. Appreciate any
help.
