We are related to the Caldwells, through William Caldwell, who married Mary
E. Cook, and the Cooks also came from Ky. our George Cook was married to
Jane Wooldridge in 1808 in Adair Co, Ky...and Mary E. is their daughter...by
the way, William was killed in the Civil War, and left a 3 month old baby
boy..Rance...these Caldwells, came in Ark. in 1840-1850 era. My 1900 census
shows Rance still alive, and has children, Joseph, James, John, Lee, Aron,
Anna ,Jasper and Willard. His mother is shown as remarried and a widow., as
is Rance. The youngest chile, Willard is only 1 yr.old, so his wife must
have died while giving birth or shortly thereafter.I also might add the
Caldwells, and Cooks were in Tn., when Wm. and Mary married..and as far back
as I have been able to trace, in North Carolina, the Cooks and Caldwells have
intermarried, lived close, so it is a possibility, your Caldwells and my
Cooks may connect with your line....Good luck, Nelda
Welcome to the list Phoebe,
I also was a CALDWELL.I was born and raised in Louisiana. But my grandpa
was born and raised in Tennessee. His dad was born in Kentucky or
Tennessee. His name was Walter Caldwell he was married to Ida Parish. He
died in his 30's from Diabetes. His wife Ida re-married to Harvey
Harris.Walter and Ida only had 2 children both boys,Vernie Addison
Caldwell and Loyd Aubrey Caldwell.Vernie stayed in Tennessee and my
Grandpa Loyd moved to Louisiana.I don't know if Walter had any brothers
or sisters,so I am stuck.None of the family thats living knows much
about this family.I assume they weren't a close family.Does any of these
people connect to any on your lineage?

Hi;
I just 'joined' this list. My maiden name is Phoebe Caldwell - I married a
Dunn.
I was born and raised in Ashland, KY in NE Ky - on the Ohio River.
My father was Bert Cecil Caldwell, born in Catlettsburg, KY. He married
Elsie Robinson.
His father, Perry Edgar Caldwell, also from that area. He was married to
Myrtle Bell Dixon.
Perry's father was Andrew Caldwell, born 17 Feb 1848, Boyd County, KY.
Married to Sarah Katherine Alley.
Andrew's father was William Caldwell, b-12 Jan 1825 in VA. At some point he
moved to eastern KY and married Jane Burton.
William's father was Seth Caldwell. And that's where it stops.
We have no dates for Seth. The only information we have is from an elderly
aunt who was told Seth came from England in 1822 to VA. We don't know his
wife's name either. However, this aunt also said although he came from
England that his family was probably from Holland. At least that's what she
was told. No proof.
Any information will be GREATLY appreciated.
thanks....

I too have a Joseph CALDWELL. He was the son of John CALDWELL b. 1810 Ohio
and Margret CLOUSER CALDWELL.
John and Margret had the following children who were born in Ind, Ill, and
MO: Simon, Joseph, Mary, James, Emily, Louisa, David G, John Luis, Eliza?,
Henry clayton or Claiborne.
I have a few good clues that John's parents were a John and Mary with Mary
being b. 1780 PA and dieng 1856 Andrew Co. MO.

This may not be anything but....
I have a James Thompson Caldwell b 1831 in Union County Ohio. Part of the
family came from Belmont County which was part of Guernsey County Ohio. James
and his wife Catherine Amrine/Amerine moved to Washington County Iowa where
both died. They were married in 1853 so he may have been living at home
before his marriage which would fit into your census. Does your census info.
give you James age?

Was George born in OH? My gr gr gr grandfather was George Caldwell b: 1828
unknown place of birth d: 1923 MA
I do not know his spouses name but he had at least one son named George who
was born abt 1846 in MA. This George married Annie Doran and they had four
sons in MA
Edward
George
John Charles
Walter
John Charles was my grandfather. He was born in MA in 1908. My mother and
I were also born in MA then moved to IN. My grandfather died in 1976 in IN
but was buried in MA.
I know this if far fetched, but since I'm at a brick wall with George, I
thought no harm, no foul.

Dear Patricia,
http://www.sc.edu/library/socar/uscs/98autm/geneal98.html
This url has a profile of Mr. Andrea. Just pasted this off the net.
http://pages.prodigy.net/tracks/ABENINQ.HTM
A man named Leonardo Andrea who is descended from Caldwell also,
compiled hundreds of pages regarding. There is no index and they are loose,
not in book form. He does (thankfully) state most of his sources. He did
this work in the 40's or 50's and is deceased. I am using the copies at the
Ladson Genealogical Library in Vidalia, GA. The staff said that his works
may be on microfilm at the archives in SC, which is where he lived.
It is a fascinating piece of work, he states the history back to the
1400's in Italy, (they were seaman or pirates depending on version) then
France (they robbed the King or had a misunderstanding), and were forced to
leave. And of course England, Scotland, & Ireland histories. Oliver
Cromwell was also a Caldwell.
Good luck,
Leslee

Is it possible that this Edna Caldwell could have married A. J. Warren
in Missouri about 1890?
Hello Listers,
I am looking for any information on my gg grandfather,Fred J. CALDWELL, born
about 1860.
He married a Mary E. BEVIS. They had a daughter Minerva born July
10,1881,Jackson,New York.May have had daughters Alice,Ida,Bessie,Lillian and
Edna. I was sent some information once about a Fred James Caldwell ,son of
James Franklin Caldwell and Amy Weaver Andrew ,who was married to an
Elizabeth Bevis and had a daughter Mary Ida and three other(un-named)
daughters. The only thing that wasn't right was the marriage date of Amy
Weaver Andrew and James Franklin Caldwell ,Feb. 10,1871 which would be about
10 years too late for it to be my gg
grandfather Fred J. Caldwell. If anyone has any information regarding these
Caldwell's I would be very grateful to hear from you.
many thanks,

Lisa, I couldn't get the above to work. Is it mis-keyed? Thanks.Linda/VA
My mom's uncle sent us a LOT of information yesterday regarding Caldwells in Missouri, Illinois, and Kentucky (mainly Missouri, though). Basically, it's the descendants of William Riley Caldwell (1860-1925), who would be my gggrandfather. I've got the basic tree up on my website (it's too long to put in an email), but there's a lot of information that I didn't put on there. There's a good ten pages of brief bios for members of the family. The link is at the end of the email. If you see a name that applies to you, feel free to email me at arthur40(a)hotmail.com for the bio.

Hi Leona,
My wife still has relatives in Nanty-Glo from the Ballentyne clan.
However, all the Caldwell's that you mentioned are not familiar.
I guess we will keep looking.
Thanks for the effort, they may all match in somewhere at a later date.
