Hi Diane,
In Volume 1:
+ Henry CALDWELL (p. 178), Private in the Colleton County Militia,
Charleston, SC, 1782.
+ John CALDWELL (p. 391), Private in the Royal NC Regiment, Wilmington, NC,
1781.
+ William CALDWELL (p. 251), Private in the Stevenson's Creek Militia,
Ninety Six Brigade, 1780. I'm not sure where this is, but think it is
either NC or SC, as other listings nearby with the same Militia name were
from there.
There were no COLWELLs or similar.
There were no FOUNDRINs but the following spellings were close to FONDREN:
+ John FONDARON (p. 193), Private in the Granville County Militia, 1781. I
believe this is SC.
+ Henry FONDEARIN (p.202), Private in the Orangeburgh Militia, Charleston,
SC, 1781.
+ Sabastian FONDEARIN (p.202), Private in the Orangeburgh Militia,
Charleston, SC, 1781.
+ James FONDEREN (p. 343), Private in the SC Militia, Capt. John Fanning's
Independent Troop, SC Volunteer Horse, 1781.
+ John FONDEREN (p. 343), Private in the SC Militia, Capt. John Fanning's
Independent Troop, SC Volunteer Horse, 1781.
In Volume II:
There were no CALDWELLs or COLWELLs.
+ William CALLWELL (p. 219), Private in British Legion, Capt. Donald
McPherson's Co., 1781.
There were no FONDRENs or FOUNDRINs or similar.
I have trimmed this information down a bit because I received many
requests. If there is someone whom you would like more information on, like
the name of the commanding officer and the exact date of the document,
please let me know. Most of the info isn't in great detail but most do have
the officer's name and dates of the muster.
Hope it helps!

Hi Marian, Bill and all you others sorting through SC Caldwells. Found this
in "Bicentennial History of Newberry County". It was sent by a distant
cousin: no other info on the book.
Found under the Christian Milton FOLK Family (page unknown).
"... Lily May [Caldwell] was born in the Long Lane section of Newberry
County. She was the youngest of three children of James William (1843-1905)
and Sallie Othella Wicker Caldwell (1863 - 1900). Both are buried in Beth
Eden Cemetery. Her paternal grandparents were Robert Jr. (Robin)
(1811-1856) and Mary Sloan Caldwell (1815-1867). Both are buried in Head
Springs Cemetery. Robert Jr's parents were Robert Sr. (1781-1860) and
Elizabeth Spence Caldwell (1788-1863).Robert Sr was the son of Robert
(1756-1823) and Jeannette Dickson Caldwell, no dates. They came from
Ireland."
Don't know who wrote this or what their sources were but it sorts out a few
of the Roberts! What do you think? Have you seen this before? I tried to
send it 2 days ago but it never went through. Let me know what you think.

Dear Marianne,
Thank you so much for sending me the message from Kathleen Beckham about
the Beckham family chronology so I could get her e-mail address. Maybe
someday I'll learn to save all my messages!
Leila Welch
I haven't traced my Caldwell back that far yet but if you would look in
volume II for the surname of THURMAN I would be greatful.
Thanks for your offer,
Darrell Thurman in Scio, Or.
I would like a look up of Christis or Curtis Caldwell or Colwell
also the surname Fondren or Foundrin
I sure do look forward to seeing what you will find.
I do know that Curtis Caldwell lost his property in 1782 from forfiture
but would love to know more about his service and who he served with
when and all that good stuff.
Thanks in advance, Diane
Hi everyone,
I just received today thru Interlibrary Loan a two-volume book called
LOYALISTS IN THE SOUTHERN CAMPAIGN OF THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR by Murtie June
Clark. It consists of:
Volume I
Official Rolls of Loyalists Recruited from North and South Carolina,
Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, and Louisiana.
Volume II
Official Rolls of Loyalists Recruited from Maryland, Pennsylvania,
Virginia, and Those Recruited from Other Colonies for the British Legion,
Guides and Pioneers, Loyal Foresters, and Queen's Rangers.
I have to turn them back in by July 6, but if anyone would like me to look
up anyone in the index I'd be happy to do so. It would help me if you could
put "LOYALIST LOOKUP" in the subject line. Please be patient if I don't
answer you immediately, as I work full time and subscribe to many of these
lists.

Hi Leila,
I just happened to have saved that message because my gg grandfather's name
is James PECKHAM CALDWELL (from Maryland) and I thought it was close enough
to keep information on. Good luck! Below is the message.

My husband, William Steve Beckham, is related to William Beckham of Essex
Co. VA, and his grandson, Russell Beckham, of Granville, NC. We have a
chronology of Beckhams dating back to William Beckham in the 1700s. If you
would like a copy, send me your mailing address and I will be glad to send
you one.

I will try this one more time, didn't seem to go the first. Write a basic
letter to your father let him know you are seeking him. Write the Social
Security people a letter asking them to forward this to your father. Send
this to your local Social Security people and they will forward it to him. I
would suppose they would let you know if he was deceased, I don't know that.
Good luck. Wilma

Dear Frances,
Would your father have served in WW II? The years seem to be right. You
might try Military Personnel Records, 9700 Page Avenue, St. Louis, MO.
However, a word of caution. Some of the files were damaged by water in
the 1973 fire there but you may get lucky! Also, you do not say if he
is alive or not. If he is deceased a search through the Social Security
Death Index may help.

I do not know if this will help but all males between the ages of 18
and 34 in 1917 had to register for the draft (WW I). You might find a
draft registration card for Thomas. On it would be date and place of
birth, address, dependents. I know for the South (my Caldwells) I
found Edgar Charles Caldwell's card at the Southeast Archives, 1557 St.
Joseph Avenue, East Point, GA. You could write. They will either send
you a form or tell you the right archives. The cost is $10.00.

Hello,
While in Lesmohagow, Scotland in 1997, I ran across a Caldwell stone in
the cemetery at Lesmohagow Old Parish Church founded anno 1140 and
rebuilt anno 1803.
What I could read on the stone:
by Wm. CALDWELL
(?) in memory
of David his Father
who Died Sept. 13, 1806
Aged 71 years And
of Anne Taylor his
Spouse who Died March
25th 1821 Aged 56 years
Also his Mother Janet
Allan who died January
26th 1881 Aged 85 years
(Balance unreadable)
This may be of some use to someone.
