I have been a not so active member of this newsletter for a long tome now in
the hopes of uncovering some members of my family. Until recently it seemed
hopeless, my ever elusive CALDWELLS were lost somewhere in history. I have
read so many great family histories in hopes of finding my own. I have
recently found some great information that may help me and I am sending it in
hopes some of you might have further information to add.
William Caldwell was married to Mary Linebaugh both were born around 1870.
They had three children 1) Johnnie born about 1888
2) Rex
2) Garland
1) Debbie
1) Clarence George born 2/27/1897 died 11,1966
married Elizabeth Holland
2) Vivian Caldwell born about 1920
married Seymour Cohen
2) Charles Guy Caldwell born about 1923 died
about 1964
married Lois Culpepper
3) Jimmy Caldwell
married Ruby Francis Alexander
2) Ray Fischer Caldwell born 6/28/1929
married Anne Carroll
3) Patrick Alexander Caldwell
married Peggy Eileen Smith
Thanks for all the encouragement and help you might have.
"SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT"
I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend,
he referred to the dates on her tombstone from the beginning....to the
end.
He noted that first came the date of her birth and spoke of the following
with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years.
For that dash represents all the time that she spent alive on earth,
And now only those who loved her know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own, the cars, the house, the cash,
What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash.
So think about this long and hard, are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left, you could be at "dash
midrange."
If we could just slow down enough to consider what's true and real,
And always try to understand the way other people feel.
And be less quick to anger and show appreciated more,
And love the people in our lives like we've never loved before.
If we treat each other with respect, and more often wear a smile,
Remembering that his special dash might only last a little while.
So, when your eulogy's being read with your life's actions to rehash,
Would you be proud of the things they say about how you spent your dash.

I have seen a few databases but these are not
complete. Your best bet is the Southeast Archives,
East Point Georgia web site. All the cards I searched
were there.

Thought I'd run this by again.
My grandfather Samuel Jesse Caldwell was b. Aug 2, 1888 in Council Bluffs
Iowa d. Dec 7, 1970 Des Moines, Polk County Iowa. He married Vey Lockwood
& resided in Valley Junction, Iowa (later renamed West Des Moines) then
settled in Des Moines Iowa.
Samuel Jesse Caldwell was the son of Allen Albert Caldwell & Amanda Beard
Caldwell. I am stuck at this brick wall.
Any help appreciated!

I have always just used the search term, National
Archives. The one I have accessed is the Southeast
Archives, East Point, Georgia. Any database I have
found on line is not complete. Another source of
information in Georgia: Statement of Service Records
in the Archives. Every male in Georgia who served in
WW I has one...gives unit and dates of service and
type of discharge. Found my Edgar C. Caldwell in both
of the above.

Melanie,
All males between the ages of 18 and 45 by September
1918 had to register for the Civilian Draft
Registration.(WW I). I have had good success in
obtaining information from the records. Check the
National Archives on line for records.

I would like to introduce myself to this list. My name is Melanie
Patt-Corner and I live near Washington, D.C.
My great grandfather was John Thomas Caldwell and I am looking for his
parents.
I have very little information on him, but I found some things about his
siblings by taking their names from the back of a photograph and going down
to archives and scrolling through every Caldwell in 1910. It was a very
very tedious process but rewarding. Here is what I know:
John Thomas Caldwell was born sometime between 1880 and 1884, in Missouri.
He married Susan (Minnie) Arminta Stubblefield in either Cuba, Missouri or
St. Louis, Missouri around 1905. He had two children with her, Thelma
Catherine, born 1906, in St. Louis, and Earl John, born 1908 in St. Louis.
John Caldwell died on September 8, 1908, and is buried in the Bacon
Cemetery at Argo, which is near Cuba, Missouri. There is no birthday listed
on his tombstone. His son, Earl John, died in 1911 at the age of three of
the measles, and his wife Minnie died in 1918 of the flu. They are also in
the Bacon cemetery at Argo. I am descended from Thelma Caldwell, who is now
93.
John had several siblings at least. They were all born in Missouri, as were
their parents. In the 1910 census three of them were living together in San
Antonio, Texas. Leslie, the older brother, was born in 1886 and was earning
a living as a street car conductor. Ella, no occupation, was born in 1888,
and Myrtle, no occupation was born in 1890. In 1910 none of these three
siblings were married, and none of them had children. However, on the back
of the photo were also listed Bell and Will. They may also be Caldwell
siblings. They all look a lot alike and very close in age.
John Caldwell's mother may have had the last name Bacon.
I look forward to reading about other Caldwells. I'm grateful to be on this
list and hope I can find some answers.
thanks!
