Hi Bill,
In my THOMPSON family book there is a Minister David CALDWELL, Nottingham
Presbyterian Church at Rising Sun, MD, who came to NC in 1753 with the
THOMPSON family, parents of my Thomas THOMPSON.
Later in the book it tells of Andrew CALDWELL'S widow, Janet CALDWELL,
marrying Archibald MC ALLISTER (1766), in the settlement of the estate of
Andrew CALDWELL. Then, about Margaret CALDWELL choosing her stepfather,
etc. I also checked Orange County records and see they correspond with
yours and the books.
Are Andrew CALDWELL and David CALDWELL connected? It would seem so because
the THOMPSON and MC ALLISTER families intermarried, as well as CALDWELL.
Audrey
Bill, I have a suspicion your Caldwells are tied with my Cooks. They also
were in Orange County. and they have intermarried in several generations.
George Cooks daughter married Wm . Caldwell, and he was killed in Civil
War...they had all moved from Tn (apparently) to N E Arkansas...we have a lot
of Samuels, Johns, and William is a family name also...have some info...Would
be glad to share, if you think this might fit your line..Nelda Cook in
Oklahoma

Looking for information about James Caldwell and his wife Francisca, both
born about 1695-1700.
James and Francisca's daughter was Agnes Caldwell, born about 1724 in
Northern Ireland. Agnes married John Grier of Northern Ireland in about 1750
in Bucks Co., PA. Agnes died on December 26, 1812, in Chester Co., PA,
leaving nine children.
I'm descended from their son John Grier, Jr., born 1758 in the New Britain
Township, Bucks Co., PA.
Any information, ideas or suggestions would be most appreciated!
Thanks,
Jeff Darlington

*Possible* connection between your Caldwells and mine. My line begins with
James Caldwell (b. about 1825?, in PA or OH?). He *might* be the same as your
James Isaac, son of Joseph Caldwell and Tamar McCreary, since the birthdates
would be roughly the same, and both in Ohio (along with about a million other
Caldwells!).
The possible corroborating info would be that Joseph and Tamar's son George
had a son Oscar Bell (b. 1856, Ohio?), and my James had a son John Bell (b.
1851, Ohio). John Bell had a daughter named Jennie Bell. I'm descended from
John Bell, who married Anna Mary Garver in Iowa. The family legend is that
James had three sons and three daughters; the three sons ran away to Iowa
because James beat them, while the daughters remained in Ohio. The sons were
Levi, Tom, and John Bell.
The daughters were Ida, Lydia, and Rhoda.
Another similarity: John Bell had a daughter Florence, born 1888 in Iowa; your
Florence was born 1871. Not conclusive, in itself, of course.
There are Johns, James, Williams, Janes, and Josephs (my grandfather was
William Joseph Caldwell)in common, again hardly conclusive.
I don't have middle names for most of these Caldwells, so there may be other
similarities I don't know about, yet.

Hello All,
I am looking for any information on Fred J. CALDWELL born about 1860's in New England. He married a Mary E. BEVIS. They had a daughter Minerva born July 10,1881,Jackson,New York. Minerva married Robert Borden JOHNSON on Oct.29,1899 in Shushan,New York.
My Mom has a poem that was written by Minerva's sister Ida. The poem is called "Aunt Ida's Memories". It is signed Ida Boice,1963.
I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has information to share regarding these families.
Many thanks,
Cindy
Peggy,
Sorry to say, Imogene sold all of her books. She is about 79 and I
don't know if she will compile another. The good news is that a
Caldwell cousin has plans to scan the book and put it on a web page, but
it will probably be after the first of the year before it can be
completed.
Matthew's parents were not married until 1791. And I could not find an
Ellender or Nellie Caldwell in my data base. I have about 30% of
Imogene's book in my database, which makes up most of my Caldwell
records. As for the Estes records, I only have back to about 1790's
that is documented. I do have some material that is speculation before
then. What was Ellender's great great grandmother's name? I will check
to see if there is a connection.
I have two different branches of the Estes family that I am trying to
research. One went to GA and the other went to AL. Then my great
granddaddy went to AL abt 1868 and met up with the other branch. We
have been told for years we are kin, but was never told how we are kin.
Let me know the names and I will see if they are in my records.
Doris
Hi, Doris & Audrey,
I have been watching the back and forth progress between you. I think there may be a link. I am researching Ellender "Nellie" Caldwell m. James Livesay ca. 1801 in Grayson County, VA. She would have been born between 1780 and 1785, probably. She could be sister to your Matthew.
Your Estes family alerted me as Ellender's great great grandaughter married in to the Estes Family. I am wondering if there could be a connection further back.
Is the Caldwell Kith and Kin by Imogene Terry still available? Address and where to obtain?
I belong to the Livesay Historical Society and while we have reams of material on Livesay, little has been done on the wives. I would appreciate any help!
Peggy

Audrey,
There are so many Martha's that it is hard to keep up with all of them.
All of David's children are a mystery to me.
I have a copy of Imogene's book, Caldwell Kith and Kin. I have enjoyed
it very much. I have learned a lot more about my Estes family since I
submitted the information in 1994. ( I am on page 107). Imogene does
not have any more books, according to John D Lawrence.
Maybe you can straighten me out about David's wife Elizabeth. In some
records I find her listed as Elizabeth Pullen and in other records I
find her listed as Elizabeth Pullen Satterwhite. Which one is correct?
Thanks to all my Caldwell cousins for all the help they have given me in
searching for my ancestors.
Hi Audrey!
All that I have on David is that he was b abt 1823 in Jasper Co., GA .
Married Elizabeth Pullen in Troup Co., GA on 4 May 1843. Their children
are Sara A b abt 1844, Mary A b abt 1846, Francis M b abt 1848,
Thomas J b abt 1850, Martha b abt 1852 (all in Troup Co) Then Elijah b
abt 1857, Ella J b abt 1860 and Jovema (?) M b abt 1863 (al in AL).
The family moves to Texas between 1863 and 1870. Elizabeth dies and
David married Elizabeth Robertson on 24 August 1872 in Rusk Co., Texas.
I do not know the names of any of the children's spouses. Any new info
would be appreciated.

Hi,
ESTES/ESTIS family is of Southside VA, wills and inventories in Halifax,
Culpeper, Franklin (W. VA), Henry, Lunenburg Counties. The CALDWELL family
was also from Southside VA.
Does Imogene take the ESTES family back as far as late 1700s to VA?
The Lunenburg ESTES is probably yours...will share some of that info if you
want.
Audrey
Hi,
Yes, Martha is a common name in that family, but there aren't many borned
almost exactly when our gg grandmother was, and especially with all the
"coincidences" to boot. At least one CALDWELL researcher says she is ours.
This person descends through the brother, I think.
I think PULLEN's name was just that. Because David's middle name was
SATTERWHITE, it may have become confused with written material. The PULLENS
were in GA at that time period which makes it more plausible that her name
was just that. I haven't researched PULLEN at all, but sometimes if I go
through the intermarried name, I can make connections to others.
In order to share with you our line from David and Elizabeth I would have to
pull that file...
My only real reservation to the above is this: there is no David in our g
mother's family, but her family seemed to name their children after the
father's family, the STEPPS. The STEPP family owned plantations, land, had
Indians for slaves (I can hardly write this...hurts), but they can be found
all the way to the Tidewater of VA, so know about them.
CALDWELLS seems to be so common...
Audrey
Hi Polly,
I forgot about this and really can't say, but they sure are in the same
places, aren't they? With Martha being born 1851-3, your Martha must belong
to a different family.
My time just doesn't cover all of the things I would like to accomplish.
The new person with Matthew CALDWELL's line may have something; seems like
she has done considerable research on CALDWELL.
I will copy this and look more as time permits.
Good to hear from you.
Audrey
Hi Doris,
No one seems to know anything about the descendants of David S. CALDWELL.
My guess is there were so many families, possibly too poor to keep in touch,
at least by a visit, and lost track of same.
If that is our Martha, we have her date of birth 1851-53...simply too many
coincidences to be that. However, let me work on this before I assume she
is mine.
There was a book published by Imo Jean TERRY of East Texas, but it is she
that challenges the fact that Martha, d/o of David S., is ours. However,
she cannot tell me why, nor anymore about these families than she has in the
book. If so, she didn't do so when she wrote back.
Her book is well, but not indexed...she is no longer young, but late 70s if
memory serves me. She has the ESTES family in the book, or at least some of
you.
Imo Jean says "presumably" David S. CALDWELL's family was always in St Clair
County, AL all the time they were in AL...except for the marriage of David
and E. PULLEN.
David S. witnesses Matthew's will in Bartow and is administrator as well.
I don't know if Imo Jean has anymore books, but will give you the address if
you like.
Audrey
Audrey,
I know we corresponded at length in the past. Did we eliminate your
David CALDWELL as an ancestor of my Martha Jane CALDWELL?
According to census data, Martha Jane "Mattie" CALDWELL was born in October,
1848, in Alabama. I have not been able to prove her on a census until 1880
in Franklin County, TX. She married William B. SPARKS on 17 November 1870
in Hopkins County, TX. Both Franklin and Hopkins adjoin Wood County.
(Franklin was formed from Titus County in 1875).
Polly

I am new to the list and would like to find some of my cousins.
Matthew Caldwell b 1794 m Mourning Satterwhite b 1795. They were
married in Jasper Co.,
GA in 1813. Their daughter Rebecca Caldwell b 1818 married Kimbrel
Estes b 1815. And
her sister Elizabeth Ann Caldwell b 1816 married David Estes b 1818. I
believe that David and
Kimbrel were brothers, but have no proof. I have a good bit of info on
these two families and
willing to share.
I would like to learn more about the other children of Matthew and
Mourning Caldwell.
Specially Lucy that married Joseph Hobbs, Amy that married Thomas Pitts
and Nancy that
married Henry Revill.
The rest of the children were John b 1814 m Emily Cox. James C b 1820 m
Jane R Eaton.
David Satterwhite Caldwell b 1823 m Elizabeth Pullen Satterwhite. George
Washington
Caldwell b 1835 m Mary E McEvers. And Martha Caldwell b 1826 m Andrew
Riley McEvers
or A R Means?
I descend from Rebecca Caldwell and Kimbrel Estes by their son Andrew
Jackson Estes, by his
son Vic Estes, by his son Dan Estes to me Doris Estes Robbins. I would
like to exchange info
on any of these families.
Hi Doris,
It is my belief that my husband descends from this line of CALDWELLS. In
the will of Matthew CALDWELL (Mourning SATTERWHITE) of Bartow County, GA,
and his son, David. David had a dau, Martha, the right age to be our gg
grandmother. If this is our Martha, she married Joseph Spencer STEPP in
Bartow County, GA, 1871.
The families migrated to Wood County, TX, or rather David S. CALDWELL and
Elizabeth PULLEN and family did. My husband's mother and father married in
Wood County, TX.
I have been challenged on this being our line, but nothing else fits in the
CALDWELL families. Do you know anything about David's family.
Audrey
