One more time: Isaac Caldwell (1860 VA-1913 OK), son of Thomas Caldwell
of Virginia (Appomattox/Charlotte Counties) 1823-1860+). Any
connections anywhere?
Ann in CA
Patti,
Could you please send me your PA Caldwells. My line is in Lawrence Co. just
north of Allegheny Co. to this day. I'm trying to link them to John
Caldwell, the early settler.
Regards,
David Lee Doll, in Ahia.

Hello I'm new to list, my name is Irene Caldwell Polkinghorne, married =
live in New Zealand. I was born in Paisley.
I am trying to trace a great Uncle ie, my Gt Grandfather's brother.
John CALDWELL born 1880 Paisley RFW Scotland.
He married a girl Liza ?? and I have a photo of them with their baby =
about 3 months old taken in Paisley before they left for Thoreld ?? =
CANADA. Possibly about 1902.=20
I also have a photo taken of him in uniform, he is in an oval frame with =
flags of the world around him, the scroll at top of picture says, =
CANADA, Souvenier of the Great War. So by his age, he looks about =
30-40, I take it to be 1914-18 war. There is a crest also with laurel =
leaves and a horseshoe with other writing I can not make out. Does this =
mean the Cavalry or Horse something ? Down the bottom it has a moose =
and a beaver. Can anyone tell me anything about the photo, or =
anything about the family.
John CALDWELL(1) parents were, John CALDWELL(2) b 10 Jan 1845 =
Johnstone, RFW Scotland, an Iron moulder, and Agnes BENNIE b 24 Apr =
1848 Airdrie Lanarkshire, Scotland.
John Caldwell (2) father was Robert CALDWELL a Tailor b 1822 Kilbarchan =
Scotland. and Margaret GROVE b 1821 Lanark. Scotland.=20
Any help would be appreciated.
Irene New Zealand.

I appreciate it all and understand the time and committment any and all of
this takes. I'm meshed into the Caldwell line several times so we're all
probably multiple cousins. My line is primarily from VA and KY altho the
Irvines, McDowells and Caldwells started marrying back in Scotland.

Hi all of you CALDWELL hunters! I have been reading the listing archives from the past year or so with great interest! I hope I can contribute somthing to the list!
I am researching a line of CALDWELLS that I have quite a bit of information about, but I can't figure where they fit in. Maybe some of you can help me. I would surely appreciate any help!
A letter written in 1897 by our gg grandfather states that our line of CALDWELLS came from the north of Ireland sometime between 1730 and 1745. They landed at Baltimore, MD, and settled there for a bit before moving on to VA. The first name I have is George CALDWELL who was born 3 days before the ship docked in Baltimore. After George was grown, he left VA and went to South Carolina where he married a young lady by the name of WYNN or WINN (Some sources say her first name was Jane). It states that she was of the family after whom Winnsboro, SC was named. George CALDWELL settled near Camden, Fairfield District, SC. George served in the Revolutionary War with General Marion as an officer.
The letter states that George CALDWELL had a sister named Jane who cared for his children while he was off to war (His wife had died at the beginning of the war). The letter lists three children of George; Garland CALDWELL b.1770, another son, Starling CALDWELL, and one daughter, Agness CALDWELL.
Garland grew up to marry a lady with the last name of LAND in the Camden area, and after sometime moved to KY. Two children were born to Garland CALDWELL and Miss LAND; Mary Caldwell (who married a lawyer by the name of CLARK), and Benjamin CALDWELL, who became a merchant in Nashville, TN. Miss LAND died in 1808, after which an aunt in KY cared for the children.
Garland CALDWELL remarried in 1812-13 to an Elizabeth MATTHEWS in SC in Spartanburg Dist. They lived there for some time until 1827 when they brought their family to Hall Co. GA. The children I have been able to identify thus far; Andrew CALDWELL b.1814, Charles CALDWELL, John Hollis CALDWELL b. 1820 d. 1899 in DELAWARE, Jane Agness CALDWELL b.@1821, Possibly there is a James CALDWELL also.
I have looked in all of the logical places that I could think of to find record of our George CALDWELL with no success. I have only been able to find documentation back to Garland CALDWELL when he was in Spartanburg, SC with his children and second wife in 1820. Anything before that; marriages, wills, or any record of George have eluded me.
Any help or advice would be appreciated! THANKS!

Are your BENNETTS and CALDWELLS connected? I have a James Caldwell Bennett
in my line and I think his mother or grandmother may have been a Caldwell. I
have been trying to find a link. He was born in S.C. ca 1815. Both his
parents were born in VA. If you can help me please do.

WOW---Richard......you're the first message on the Caldwell list for MONTHS
(I'm so tired of those VA/KY/TENN/TX Caldwells! ;-) that connects to the
New England branch!! Amazing. I just checked out your web page....looks
interesting and very promising. And I didn't know about a Priest
"book"..............and I didn't know there were TWO groups of Caldwells up
there.....yours and the Worcester bunch.
ALL NEW TO ME!! I'm learning fast!!
I've got an Alexander born in Tuscarawas Co., Ohio about 1801......son of a
Samuel who brought his family from......this is vague......Connecticut....or
N.England somewhere!!
How's that for a definite "maybe!!"
I'd have to guess that Samuel belongs to one of the guys on your list!
The fun part is to figure out who/how/when etc.!!
Got any suggestions on where to begin?? I just need a push in the right
direction!!

Subject: [CALDWELL-L] CALDWELL web pages & original families
Hi,
I have a web page that includes most of the descendants of the group
of Caldwells that came to the north shore of MA around 1720 (three
brothers, of course - "James, William, and Joseph" - although there
might be an Alexander in there) and then quickly moved to southern
New Hampshire (and extreme north-central MA), which they helped
populate. Some went to eastern NY and southern VT a few decades
later. Much later, some branches went to WI and elsewhere in the
1800's, but I don't have much info on what happened to them. Most of
the information is from Alice L. Priest's genealogy of this Caldwell
family.
http://www.asan.com/users/shypuppy
(Don't confuse these CALDWELLs with the ones that came to MA, with
many moving due west to the Worcester Co. area.)
By the way, I descend from the MCFARLAND family that lived in and
near Worcester, MA.
