Hello Folks, I just wanted you all to know I was overwhelmed at
the kind response to the Seth Caldwell and Nancy Rice
connection. This gives me a new outlook on the whole
situation. I was under the impresson Seth did in the early
1840. Now I'm ready to go to work thanks to your family page.
Now here is what I know about Nancy Rice. Nancy Rise/ Rice was
the daughter or sister of Thomas Rice w: Sarah. Thomas signed
for her to get married but I think she was his sister. She
married Seth Coldwell, the same year the Rices moved to Giles
Co. VA in 1826. On the 1840 census They had three male
children under the age of 15, two female children under the age
of 10. Nancy and Seth are listed as between 30 and 40 years of
age. I know one of their sons was James because he work with
Marshall Rice.
Thomas Rice was a Methodist Circuit Rider and traveled even
after they settled in Giles. Therefore his roots have been
difficult to trace. So, I've decided to try for the children
and see if there is possibly something in their line to help
unravel this mystery.
Thank- you once again and if there are any questions I can answer
please let me know. Lois

I have William Caldwell born 1760 in Belfast, C. Antrim, IR. I'm not
sure where he first settled but lived in Spartanburg Co. He married
Margaret Crawford. A son, James Caldwell married Lucinda Miller. One
of their sons was James Martin Caldwell who married Hester Ann Reid.
One of there sons Thomas B. Caldwell was my maternal grandfather.
Perhaps your Joseph and my William were related - brothers, cousins,
even uncle and nephew?

I recently ordered an application for SS for Viola Caldwell. The
application I received was for Viola Wilson Caldwell. She is the
daughter of Henry Edward Wilson and was born April 5, 1907. Mother's
name was Nettie Evalyn Albee. Would be happy to send you this
application if you will send an address. Audrey

Do you have this person in the book? Thanks for any help. Barbara
Hi Don, this is not my Caldwell line but I expect that you are seeking Mary

1796 in Mercer Co., KY to Henry Palmer.
Did son, Robert C. Palmer m. E. Hardin (2)H. Kees??

book.

Hi Verna -
My known Caldwell family is very short. It consists of only my
gr.gr.gr.grandmother, Mary Steel(e) CALDWELL.
She was born about 1778, and married Henry Caldwell PALMER about 1796.
Henry was born about 1775. They lived in Mercer Co., KY., and had the
following children, all probably born in the early 1800s:
Robert Caldwell PALMER b. 7/16/1800
Ann Beuvis PALMER
Henry P. PALMER
Mary Caldwell PALMER
Elizabeth J. PALMER
Margaret Henrietta PALMER
It is interesting (and perhaps in error) that Mary Caldwell married a
man with the middle name of CALDWELL.
I have been looking for several years, and have never found anything
about Mary, except for mention in family records. I know nothing
about Mary's birth place, family or parents.
If you have the time, I thank you for doing the lookup.

Lois,
Seth is not in my direct line, but does belong to my branch, at least most
researchers think so.
He is believed to be the son of William Caldwell and Mary Claiborne. William
was the son of Seth and Elizabeth Caldwell. My ancestor was Hardy Caldwell,
who all evidence suggests was also the son of Seth and Elizabeth.
I have other information if you are interested.
Cathy
Cathy,
I have the book "Caldwell's & Their Cousins of VA & S.E.KY and it has that
line in it. I will copy it for you if you will tell me exactly what you
want. vmw At 12:24 PM 11/16/98 EST, you wrote:

Lois,
I have book "Caldwell's & Their Cousins in VA & S.E. KY and it has you Seth
in it. If you tell me more about your family, I will copy & send e-mail (if
not too much) and snail mail if lots in this book. Which child of
Seth/Nancy etc. etc. I am pressed for time right now but will get back to
you this afternoon. This book has some wonderful pictures in it (old), but
not one of Seth/Nancy, I don't think. Maybe one of their ch. I will look
later as I said. vmw (Verna)At 10:08 PM 11/15/98 EST, you wrote:
