Hi y'all,
I've picked up a copy of a book titled "Historical & Biographical Sketch of the Caldwell Family" which was published by a Publishing Co. in Washington, DC. This book covers Caldwell's from The Rhode Island Branch, The Burlington Mass Branch, The Oxford Maine Branch, The Litchfield and Dunbarton, N.H. Branch, a limited number of Caldwell's from Pennsylvania, Ohio, Iowa, Illinois, Mich, Kansas, Idaho, Virginia, Kentucky, New York, North Carolina, Georgia, California & Tennessee. There are also Caldwell's listed who served in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. And a few pages devoted to prominent members of the Caldwell family. There is a description and explanation of the Caldwell Coat-Of-Arms. In all the book totals 30 pages or so.
I'd be glad to type a few pages at a time & post them on our list, if interest warrants. Please let me know.

Ansel was b. 9 Feb 1825 in Gallia Co. OH and d. 4 Feb 1912 in Ashville,
Pickaway Co., OH. Sarah & Ansel appear in the 1860 census for Morgan Twp.
Gallia Co. OH, both age 25, and the census indicates Sarah was born in
Ohio. This is everything I know about Sarah. ANY help will be appreciated!

Does the name Vinard appear in any of your CALDWELL families? I have a
Thomas CALDWELL who died in 1856 in KY. His death record said he was born
in VA, but the census record shows MD? He named a son Vinard. He also
named a son Allen which is the reason I thought there might be a
connection.

I have just found a great new ancestry link. You guys my already know about it but it's new to me. I found the Social Security Death Index that has over 52 million social security numbers of deceased ancestors. Upon searching this sight I "discovered" that my father's grandmother's social security number was issued to her from the state of Deleware. I never even knew that my grandparents had lived in Deleware. Upon checking this information out I discovered that my grandparents actually lived there several years.
For any interested the site link is: http://www.ancestry.com

PS. I found out the birthdate for my great-grandfather Caldwell. Now could anyone let me know if they've run across this name: Bert Caldwell b. June 15, 1888 died Nov. 1976. He died in Winston Salem, NC. Any info would be appreciated.

Dear Patti
Thanks for adding me to your mailing list. I live north of Auckland, New
Zealand, and emigrated from Bury, Lancashire, England many years ago. I am
anxious to trace my ancestry from my grandmother who was born around 1857.
I know very little about her but I will ask for information in my first
message. I have four adult children who are very interested to learn of
their ancestry.

Isaac Caldwell was killed in the line of duty as a sheriff in Guthrie,
OK. His 1913 death certificate named his father as Thomas, his mother
as Maritia (last name almost undecipherable, but looks like) Garsten?
Isaac was born in Virginia. I have a Thomas Caldwell located in
Appomatox County with young children in 1850 and 1860. Isaac is not
among them, though born 15 May 1860.
DO I HAVE THE RIGHT THOMAS? Does anyone else have that combo in their
family? What of the Garsten? or something similar? HELP?

I am Enid Gillihan, in Iowa, working on family history for my husband's line,
which includes the CALDWELL line.
I am looking for information on the family of Sarah Jane CALDWELL b. 20 Feb
1799. Sarah Jane married William F. FORESTER in Erie County, PA ca 1820.
In 1826 William had nine acres in Millcreek. By 1850 they were living in
Lake Co., Ohio, and during the 1860's they moved to Cass County, Iowa.
A William CALDWELL of Erie Co. PA died childless in 1847 and left his estate
to his four brothers and five sisters, four of whom were married to Forester
(Foster) brothers. It is possible that the father of these CALDWELLs was
David Caldwell, listed on the 1810 and 1820 census of Erie County, Millcreek
Twp., PA.
Would be interested in hearing from anyone with connections to this CALDWELL
line.

Dear Clayton,
NY & MI are definitely possibilities - the states that I have Jane Caldwell
b 1807 living (based on birth, death & children's birth) are OH, IA, IL. For
her father, William, I do not have a birthdate but I would guess about 1780 -
location is Ireland.

Hi,
Still trying to track my Caldwells. Have found
referances to two Caldwells in the same area and time
period.
The first was from a SAR lookup at www.ancestry.com
>A National Register of the Society Sons of the American Revolution,
> p.599
> HARRY CALDWELL, St. Paul, Minn. (3784). Son of Alfred and
> Martha (Baird) Caldwell; grandson of James and Ann (Booker)
> Caldwell; great-grandson of James Caldwell, frontier soldier,
> defender of Fort Henry, 1777; grandson of George and Jane (Wilson)
> Baird; great-grandson of Absalom Baird, Surgeon, Baldwin's Artillery
> Artificers. [p.600]
The second from the Washington County NY town
historian.
>You have found the right place for Caldwell, unfortunately only a few
>mentions are made of a Robert Caldwell. In The Salem Book, 1896 by
>Harriet Williams, he is listed as a patriot soldier in the Revolutionary
>War. In the History of Washington County, 1878, Crisfield Johnson, he is
>listed on a payroll as a Sergeant in the Company of Captain Thomas
>Armstrong in the Regiment of Col. John Williams, Nov. 10, 1777. The
>County History also notes that the Caldwell family were early settlers
>in Camden Valley in the southern part of the town. Here many Loyalists
>lived. It appears that the Caldwell family had spit loyalties. This
>was not uncommon. Many of the Loyalists from Camden Valley emigrated to
>Canada about this time, after the Battle of Saratoga. Due to a bad fire
>in 1840 many of Salem's early records were lost so early records of the
>1700's are scarce. Found nothing on Walter Caldwell or Alexander
>Brotherton.

>Al Cormier

Anyone working or connected to these two Caldwells ???

Melanie,
Were your CALDWELL/COLDWELL families in NY or Mi.? I had a James W.
CALDWELL who was married to a DeLight TITUS. He was born appx. 1810 in NY
(I think). I'm pretty sure his Mother's name was Mary. They were settled
in Ray Twp., Macomb Co., Mi. by 1850.

Jane
> Caldwell b 1807/OH. The only info I have for Jane are her parents names
-
> William CALDWELL b ?/Ireland married to Mary ? b?/?. No sibling info.
Jane
> marred John B. HAYDEN b 1800/PA d 1866/IL and it appears that Jane
remarried
> someone with the surname DANSOR or DANCER. Somewhere along the way, I
