Hi, Senga:
I am also looking for information on a William Caldwell (this one from
Scotland/Ireland). My William married Sarah McQuade. Their daughter Eliza
Jane Caldwell was born about 1835 in Ireland; d 14 Jun, 1887 in Hawick,
Rox., SCT. Eliza Jane married James Finlay, a woolen weaver, who was born
in Ireland in about 1833; d at Melrose, SCT. 29 Aug. 1897. In the 1881
census James Finlay age 46 and wife Eliza age 45, were living at 39 High
Street, Hawick, with their children: ROBERT age 20 (assistant in yarn
store), THOMAS (my grandfather, Thomas Caldwell Finlay) age 20, JAMES age 19
(apprentice house painter), SAMUEL age 17 (apprentice tailor), DAVID age 14
(scholar), and EOIZA age 11 (scholar). There was also a boarder, JOHN
CALDWELL, age 41 b Galashiels, occupation tailor (SAMUEL probably worked for
him). I am supposing that this boarder is Eliza Jane's younger brother, and
William and Sarah Caldwell have other children...
I tried connecting to your Heartland page, but didn't get any response.
Lucille Richmond, Pawcatuck, CT.
