Hello all,
I just subscribed to this list so I'll let you know who I'm researching.
My g.g.g.grandfather Allan Caldwell married Janet Hunter in Galston,
Scotland in 1826. They had three children: Janet born 1827, John born
1828 and Allan(my g.g. grandfather) born in 1831(all born in Galston).
Shortly after Allan was born, the family came to the Little Bras d'Or
area of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada. Allan, Sr. was a miner
in Scotland and in Cape Breton.
I know little about Janet and John. John supposedly went to the U.S. and
married an actress. Janet married a Crawford Wallace in the U.S. or
married him and then moved to the U.S.
Allan Jr. married Martha Anderson and settled in Sydney Mines, Cape
Breton. Several of their children later moved to the U.S. including
Allan(Pennsylvania), Andrew(Boston), Martha (married a Damon in Boston),
Elizabeth(married a Hollis in Boston), Jenny (married Robert Burchell
in Boston), and Agnes(married Everett Cann in Jamaica Plains, Mass.).
Two of Allan and Martha's children moved to Montreal: Annie(married
Alexander McSween) and Margaret (married William Burrell).
The children who remained in Cape Breton were: John (Dominion), James,
Wallace, George and Rebecca (MacDonald) who all remained in Sydney
Mines.
I would be happy to exchange information with any descendants of this
family.
Regards
