Doug,
I can not match the persons you list, but just in case there could be a
connection, here is what I have.
I have a Joseph Caldwell born in Ireland, probably between 1750 and 1795. I
have no details on where in Ireland he was born. He married Elizabeth
McMillan, I don't know where or when. Both were deceased before the time of the
death of their son, Samuel, in 1894. I don't know where or when they died.
The only child I know of was Samuel Caldwell, born between 1800 and 1814
(probably about 1814) in Ireland. He married in Ireland to Elizabeth Graham
(place & date unknown) and had at least two children: Elizabeth Jane (bap 11 Jul
1831 at 2nd Omagh Presbyt. Ch., Tyrone, Ireland) and Isabella (b. c1837 in
Ireland). The wife, Elizabeth McMillan, died (probably in Ireland) between 1840
and 1848.
Samuel emigrated from Ireland to Renfrewshire, Scotland, some time before
1848, when he married there to Jane Sinclair. They had at least 4 children:
Joseph c1849, John c1863, Robert c1869 & George c1873. I have no further details
about these 4 boys, except that the latter 3 were alive in 1881 and Robert was
alive in 1894.
Samuel's first daughter, Elizabeth Jane, was alive in 1851 in Renfrewshire.
I have no further data on her.
Samuel's 2nd daughter, Isabella, died in Renfrewshire in 1899. She married
there in 1860 to James Murray, and was my great-grandmother. Some of this
family emigrated to Ontario, Canada, and met there Caldwell "relatives" whose
identities I have never learned. I do know of a Caldwell family in Ontario whose
own family stories include an indication that they shared an ancestry with my
Caldwells, but this link has not yet been found. Their ancestry goes back
into Renfrewshire into at least the late 1700s, and it is "possible" that my
Caldwells went there because there were "cousins" there.
See anything worth pursuing?
