John Caldwell born 1805 in Ireland is my great great grandfather.
James Caldwell is my great great grandfather's, John's father.
James Caldwell "the elder" lived to almost 100 and was born
in Antrim County, Northern Ireland of Scottish descendant.
James Caldwell was born in 1775. James had a brother Joseph.
Joseph was born, probably 1772 also in Antrim County, Ireland.
James Caldwell married a Caroline in 1796 in Ireland (Antrim ?).
James & Caroline had 10 children in Ireland. Caroline died 1816.
1 of the 10 children (# 5?) was my g g grandfather John Caldwell.
James then immigrated to New York in 1817 with John "in tow".
Probably James (widower) did not take all children, just some.
James is listed as a passenger on ship Aeolus (Londonderry).
James arrived in New York 18 June 1817. He is from Ulster.
James is likely from Scottish descendant, born in Ireland.
Caroline (James 1st wife) is buried in Ireland (Antrim County?).
James & Joseph (brothers) are found in Medina NY area in 1849.
One of Joseph's sons is William (b ~1805). William is in Litchfield,
Michigan in 1868. James' son is John, found in Litchfield in 1868.
William & John being cousins because James & Joseph are brothers.
James Caldwell died 5 April 1875 in Orleans County NY (~100 old).
Joseph died 3 Fed 1868. Buried Shelby Cemetery, Orleans Co, NY.
Survivors of Joseph Caldwell living 1868: George, William, James W.,
Susan, Gertrude, Jane Ann, Libbie, Mary Ann, Joseph W.
Is this enough to be able to find James or Joseph in Ireland,
and some sort of genealogy tree (e.g. their parents or syblings).
Thanks for any information you can find on my Irish / Scottish
family....
Doug Caldwell
