Hi:
This is interesting! My grandfather was Thomas Caldwell Finlay, born 8
July, 1860 in Galashiels. He was son of James and Eliza Jane (Caldwell)
Finlay. Eliza Jane was born about 1835 in Ireland and died 14 June, 1887 in
Hawick. Eliza Jane's parents were William Caldwell and Sarah (McQuade), but
I have no other information on them.
My grandmother (wife of Thomas Caldwell Finlay) was Mary Reid, born 6
February, 1861 in Hawick. She was daughter of John and Jane (Riddell) Reid.
John was born 7 July, 1823 in Askirk, and died 9 March, 1855 in Wilton. He
was son of James Reid and Margaret Haldane/Haddon who were married about
1822, but I have no other information on them.
Don't know if these tie in or not, but I thought it interesting that the
names Reid and Caldwell are intertwined.

Subject: [CALDWELL-SCOTLAND] Douglas Caldwell
My gg grandfather was Douglas Caldwell who was the second husband of my
g.g. grandmother Jean Orr.
Jean Orr's parents were Thomas Orr and Hannah Longmuir Orr, who were
married in Stewarton in 1803, and lived at Annandale Farm near
Kilmarnock. I do not know their dates of birth.
Douglas Caldwell had three children, my great grandfather Thomas
Caldwell, (born in 1839 in Prestwick,? Catrine,? Ayr? and who
emigrated to New Zealand), and two daughters , known only as Mrs.
Hunter & Mrs. Reid.
I am trying to find out where and when Douglas Caldwell was born, who
his parents were, and where they came from.
Can anybody help?
I have a lot of information about the New Zealand Caldwells.
