Have done a lot more research and found these tidbits on James Calderwood's line:
If anyone can go any farther into the past with this, please let me know I'd be very
interested.

James Calderwood Jr (1760-1834), In 1780 (roughly) he was Married to Catharine MacDonald
(1760-1841 - Warrior's Mark, Pennsylvania), she was the daughter of Catharine McNeill
1743 - 1825, and Hugh MacDonald (b. 1739 - ?). James & Catharine had several children
(Enos, James, Mary, John, George, Andrew, Sarah, William, Samuel). I'm descended from
Samuel.
James Calderwood Jr. (1760-1834) is the son of James Calderwood Sr (b. 04 Feb 1742 in
Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, d. 11 Sept 1777 at Battle of Brandywine) and Anne Bremer
Brimer (1742-1808).
Oddly, most of the references I find say they married in 1763, but that means she gave
birth to James Calderwood Jr out of wedlock in 1760 if that date is correct.
James Calderwood Sr. died Sept. 11, 1777 in the Battle of Brandywine.

Copy of letter saying his widow asked for his pay:

is not mentioned.
After his death, Anne Bremer remarried to David Watson (1741-1803), (not sure what year
they married however) and had two children: Jonathan (1765-1818) Susan (1767-?)

There are other references to the same James Calderwood who died 1777 in battle of
Brandywine- in this forum thread, but they mention totally different wives for him there.

also a TON of info here:

through it all.

Basically, I'd like to figure out who James Calderwood Sr's Father is and continue
tracking the line in Scotland.
He MAY be the son of Alexander Calderwood and Margaret Maklem, but he also might be the
son of Robert Calderwood from Edinburgh. It is very confusing. I have been checking the
Christenings lists for this time period, but it is hard to tell.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
