faelynne Pj here. having done some real digging a few years ago I recieved information
from a family member and on a web site about the Calderwoods. Their history is interesting
the name comes from the celtic Clan Calder that was captured by the English in the ninth
century (see Moray wars)the leaders of the clan where sent to the Glasgow area of scotland
in the thought that dividing the leaders from the people would make the rest of the clan
easier to manage. in the tenth century the king of scotland found that there where to many
areas with the names alike, so he ordered that certain groups would take a surname that
would differnante between the groups the last name had to be of English. Calder being
Celtic and wood being English. The first use of the name is recorded on the Ragman rolls
of scotland. A signature of a Byron of Calderwood is found on them. The Castile calderwood
was wrestled from the family during the 14th century. The last family member named
Calderwood le!
ft the house during the 1950s. The Castile was felled in 56 as to dangerous to have
around. I hope this helps I do have the full story by James Clanan on paper in my records.
