Message Board Post:
I am the granddaughter of May Calder Hay, born 1884 in Dundee, Scotland. My mother, Ruth
Hay Peterson, is May's youngest child. I corresponded briefly with Carol L. several
years ago, but have lost contact. May I ask how we are related? I have been doing some
research on my grandmother and am interested in knowing if anyone has knowledge of the
woman with whom she was sent to live in Canda (and where in Canda) when she and her
sister, Jessie, arrived as Home Children in 1890. I have just found a letter from Jessie
to my grandmother written in 1936 that includes details of many of Jessie's family
members. It seems as if Jessie and May had not been in touch for many years before the
arrival of this letter. My mother has no knowledge of what happened to Robert Calder. My
grandmother thought he was lost to the family after coming to Canada. Is this not
correct? Is the Angie T. in Alberta that you mention part of his family line? My
grandmother was only close to her bro!
ther, David in British Columbia. I correspond with one of David's granddaughters who
continues to live near Delta, BC.
I would appreciate any more information you might have and would be glad to share the
contents of the letter from Jessie if you would like. I am also curious about my gr.
grandmother, Margaret Moon Calder's immigration to the US. Any information on that
subject would be appreciated.
Regards,
Carol Peterson Boyer
