Hi,
Me again.
Have been unavailable to all Calder researchers for quite some time. Have just seen that
I still have this list and am wondering if anyone wants to chew me out for not being here
as I should have. If so, go for it!
However................if anyone would like to help trying again, please introduce
yourself and share what you can to start this list going.
I will send my research first thing in the morning. Just had a bad accident on the
interstate and am here just giving thanks that I am still here to share.
Dave
Dave,
Glad you are okay.............
My Calder's are from the Nairn area of Scotland (so far). I traced the line
to James CALDER and Katherine MCCURICH who were married in 1752 Nairn, Nairn
but can not prove same.
I believe my James Calder (4th great) was born 1785 Nairn, Nairn (evidence
in Canada points to 1787, Nairn). If I have the correct christening record,
his grandfather was James Calder and his father William Calder. He married
Janet MACKINTOSH in 1807 Nairn, Nairn. They had 7 girls and 2 boys, neither
son survived to carry the line.
James emigrated to Canada in 1832 with his son William and a few of the
girls and settled in North Dumfries / Ayr, Waterloo, Ontario. Between the
late 1840's and early 1850's, the girls that remained in Scotland emigrated
with their families and settled in Oneida, Haldimand, Ontario where my 3rd
greats, James Williamson and Anne Calder, were residing.
My roadblock is Catherine Calder (daughter to above James and Janet
Mackintosh) who was born Nairn, Nairn 26 July 1816. Have been unable to
figure out what happened to her. All I know is that she was alive in 1869
when James Calder amended his Will. I have no idea if she was in Canada or
remained in Scotland.
I am also interested hearing from anyone who has Calder's from Nairn in
their tree.
John Calder, one of the descendents of the line of James Calder / Katherine
McCurich also emigrated to Canada with his parents, John Calder and Anne
Ross, and became a prominent buisnessman in Hamilton, Ontario. His brother
Alexander ended up in New York State. Someone actually ran across the
family bible of John Calder and Anne Ross in an antique mall in Lansing,
Michigan and copied down the family info. One of the descendents of
Alexander Calder ended up in Ann Arbor, Michigan and perhaps that is how the
bible came to be in the antique mall. Always questions.............
