I doubt I will ever be able to trace past where I am right now. In the period that James
Calder would have been born, mothers were not listed on the christening records (in Nairn,
Nairn) but am not yet done with the registers so there still is some hope to go back one
or two generations. If I recall, the records for Nairn began in the late 16's, Calder
even later....early 17's.
Cawdor is a later spelling of Calder....as a matter of fact, I have run into the spelling
of "Calder" in the early Nairn records when a witness from that parish was
recorded at a christening.
Cawdor Castle is beautiful, took quite a few photos when I was there. Did you get a
chance to go behind the castle to the "Wild Garden"? That was my favorite part
but if I recall you had a chance to meet the Lady herself!
