I am in the process of compiling a Genealogical register of Natal families (in South
Africa), and would like to share some information with this list. I am researching a
Calder family which came to Durban, Natal between 1890-1900, and would like to know if
anyone can help idetify them, and contribute some details as to their Scottish roots.
The following Calders are buried in a family plot in Stellawood Cemetery, Durban, South
Africa:
James Alexander Calder, b. Edinburgh, Scotland 23 May 1878, d. Durban 12 May 1929
William Calder, b. Caithness, Scotland 21 Dec 1857, d. 21 June 1941
Marion Muir Calder, b. Edinburgh, Scotland, d. 21 Feb 1948, aged 89
Elizabeth Calder, b. Caithness, Scotland, d. 16 Jan 1913, aged 83.
Alexander Calder, b. Caithness, Scotland, d. 1 March 1924, aged 94.
James Calder, b. Edinburgh, Scotland 28 Feb 1861, d. 5 Feb 1927
William Calder, b. Caithness, Scotland 21 Dec (year illegible)
The following Calders are buried in Pietermaritzburg, Natal, South Africa:
James Calder, d. 2 Sept 1929, aged 72
his wife: Isabella Calder, d. 8 Oct 1902, aged 45
their children: James "Jamie" Calder, d. 3 April 1895, aged 4 years, and David
