Hello everyone..............trying to find the ascendants and siblings of
James CALDER. This might be a little lengthy and hope the list will indulge
me as I am at a dead end. "Handed down" information states that he was born
in SCT 1 Jan 1787 and his parents as ?? CALDER and Janet LAMB.
The only birth that I could find of a James to a CALDER and LAMB was James
CALDER b. 4 Apr 1785, Nairn, SCT to William CALDER and Isobel LAMB. I am
going with that for now as James' first son was named William. On this
christening, the only witness appearing is listed as "James CALDER the
child's grandfather".
I could find no other children born to this couple........hence the problem.
I could not find their marriage either.
James CALDER d. 11 Jul 1869. His death registration lists his age 82 years
old putting his birth year at 1787. The informant was his son-in-law,
Andrew Mathieson. He is buried in the Cedar Creek Cemetery, North Dumfries,
Ontario, next to his son William and his son-in-law, James Williamson.
Facts that I have:
James CALDER m. Janet MACKINTOSH 18 Dec 1807, Nairn, SCT.
Janet Mackintosh died in SCT abt. 12 Apr 1829
James CALDER along with his sister Isabella CALDER and 4 of his children
emigrated to Canada abt. 1832. The emigration date comes from census
information given by his daughter, Anne. His sister Isabella is mentioned
in his Will and is also listed on various censuses. She never married.
James settled in North Dumfries, Ontario, Canada. The first land record I
have is dated Dec 1832 for Lot 33, Conc. 9, North Dumfries (thanks, Chris!)
James then married Margaret Wyllie Guthrie (no date) who was widowed shortly
after she and her husband, David Guthrie emigrated to Canada from Ayr, SCT.
They had no children together but she had several with her first husband.
