I have a George Meek (1855) son of William Meek and Mary Miller in a mini-tree that I am
hoping to connect to my main tree. No Calder in that tree, although I don't have any
info about George except his parents. I have a family paper that mentions a John Meek
(railway fireman) and this minitree (72 people) was the result of looking for him.
My own gg-grandfather William Meek (1795? Scotland- 1865 Canada)(m Ann Corbet) moved to
Canada about 1835 and I can't seem to find any parents for him back in Scotland. There
is a will, and maybe a death cert (1865) somewhere near Ingersoll, but I haven't
tracked them down yet. I have about 30 ancestors in Ingersoll Rural Cemetery.
What I do have that may interest you is a bunch of Calder people who are in my main tree,
which is Meek out of Ingersoll, Ontario
John Knight Calder1882 - 1946 (civil engineer/building construction)(Moved to Detroit;
worked in Russia pre-ww2)(m Ethel Meek)
John M Calder (John K's father)
John Meek Calder1912 -
Mary Margaret Calder1917 -
Ethel Meek Calder1920 -
If you haven't checked there, you might also be interested in ScotFamTree. There is a
member there, "Junius" (Forbes Meek) who has the most amazing collection of
snippets of Meek information I have ever run into. I know he has some Scottish Calder
information in there. It seems Meek and Calder marriages have been a regular thing for a
long time.
