Hi Again,
Have you traced them to the United States?
I may not have the info you are looking for, but think I can help.
Have you every been on the Metisgen mailing list?
There are Calders and Forbes both that I believe have a connection to your query.
Again, contact me and see if we can find a connection.

Thank you for the information, I check the website; my line of Calders were known as Cowdor according to a granduncle who's grandmother was the Christie Calder of the orginal posting. The name was changed before they left Scotland, he was told as a boy the the "old" family name was Cowdor. He also said something about Angus Loch which we never could place and wonder if her was talking about a place in Scotland and not a person. He was in his 90's during the interview and his mind wonder abit. Angus was suppose to be the first Lake in this country about the mid 1860's. That was found to be incorrect as the first of our line is confirmed in the late 1600's in Gravesend NY

You are correct that they were of the Clan Campbell. This is an interesting site for Scottish Surnames http://www.dwalker.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/page127.htm
However, in Nairn they were not that common and that is where my ancestors originated so far (back to the mid 17's). There is a Cawdor Castle in the county of Nairn. This is a later spelling of Calder. No.......I am not of that ilk but these things are always interesting.
My Calder's emigrated to Canada in the early 1830's. They settled in the counties of Waterloo and Haldimand, Ontario.

According to my historical readings the Calders were members of Clan Cambell, in general although there in all likely hood were exception as it appears that Calder is about as common a name in Scotland as Smith in the US or sometime is feels like that anyways, however there is a very large gap between my research and Clan Cambell I'm affraid

We are not sure at this point to get to John and Elizabeth has been about a 30 year slogging match and we believe they were in Canada at least for a time hoping to track them from that point back

Searching for any information on John or Elizabeth they came to the United States or Canada probably Ontario between 1845 and 1847 from Canada. They had at-least 5 daughters who survived to adult-hood Elizabeth Calder Smith b. 1939 in Scotland; Christie Ann Calder Lake b. 1842 in Scotland; Nina Calder Fry Quackenbush; b. 1852 belived to be in New York State and Charlotte Calder b. 1853 in New York or Ontario Canada and Janet Calder Morgan no other information. Based on some deductive reasoning belive that John was born between 1816 - 1824 and Elizabeth 1818 -1825 nothing scientific about the estimates just guess work based on averages. Any help would be greatly apprieciated
