Hi I'm a newcomer to the list.
My connection to the name CAIRNS is through my GGGmother Esther Cairns who
married Robert Reid in Wilton, Roxburgh, Scotland. Although the marriage
record seems not to have survived, it is possible from the 1841 and 1851
Censuses and later family marriage/death certificates to determine that Esther must
have died between 1841 and 1851.
I had originally thought that Esther must have been the only available
candidate from the OPRs, i.e. the daughter of James Cairns and Beatrix Turnbull
(Cavers 2 May 1797) in a well researched and documented family. However,
that proved to be a red herring as that Esther turned out to have married an
Alexander Neill as evidenced by her death certificate in 1865.
The IGI does provide an entry for another Esther bp 26 Sep 1792 at Gateshaw
Associate Session, Morebattle to George Cairns/Margaret Gray/eig, an entry
which I have subsequently been able to confirm on the LDS film. This
actually fits better with the age quoted for Esther in 1841, but, that aside, I
have subsequently been unable to find any proof. Nor, have I been able to
trace any ancestry or George and/or Elizabeth.
I would be very pleased to hear from anyone researching in this area.
