Looking at the death records of my Great Grandfather GEORGE CAIRNS
it
shows he died in his home at 1055 Cedar Sault Ste, Marie Michigan July
31, 1911 from heat exhaustion. Age 45 years, 2 months, 27 days. It also
says that he was a teamster and that he was born in Michigan but his
parents are born in Ontario but don't list there names. That's all i
know about him.

Hi Gary,
Since this George was alive about 1880, I checked the 1880 US census and
National Register for a George born about 1866 in Michigan and residing in
Michigan. No luck. Then checked the Register for all George Cairns (and
standard soundex variants) born about that time, again with no luck. There
were a couple in Illinois born about that time. However, you mention Sault
Ste, Marie, so Canada seems a better alternative than Illinois.
So, I tried Canada in 1881, and the closest one seems to be a George, s. of
John and Jane Cairnes, age 18, born Ontario, living in Berlin, Waterloo Co.,
Ont. This George had lots of siblings including Lavina, Ada, Laura, Emily,
names that might be mentioned in later records if you have such. The father
of this family was born in Ireland and the mother in Ontario.
This probably doesn't help at all, but it is one possibility among many as
one expands the search beyond the constraints that you specify. You can go
through the process yourself as the CD's on which this census information
can be accessed are available at any local LDS Family History Center.
My Cairns family also emigrated through Ontario. However, the Georges in
those families were born in 1850 in Scotland and in 1885 in Ontario.
Good luck,
Don
