Hi, I'm just new to this list and am searching for my CAIRNS family. This is what I
know to date:
Bartholomew CAIRNS, b. abt. 1817 in Ireland ( most likely Cork Co) married a Mary H. Kelly
in Ireland abt. 1840. The last name could have originally been Kerns, Kearns, Karens,
etc.
They had 2 children in Ireland ( Patrick abt. 1841 and Michael abt. 1843 ) before
immigrating to Canada about 1846/47.( Canada did not keep immigration records this early)
They had 9 more children between 1850 and 1966 ( that I know of ) John, Andrew, Thomas,
Mary Ann, Bartholomew jr., James, Martin, Ellen, & Bridget. They settled in the DUNDAS
area of Ontario and were Roman Catholics. While I can find them on the 1861, 71 and 81
census's, they then seem to just disappear. I cannot find them on the 1891 or 1901
census's, nor are there any deaths for the family in the Ontario civil registrations,
1881 up to 1913.
Maybe they moved? I've managed to obtain a very few church records for some births,
and one death.
Please contact me if you have any match up, or suggestions on where I could go from here
to find more.
Thanks in advance,
Judy, in sunny but cold Alberta, Canada.
