This is what I think I know so far!
My Great Grandfather, William Cairns died at age 77 and was buried at Holy
Trinity Church, Newtown (Nr. Fareham, Hants) Diocese of Portsmouth on 1st
Feb. 1940, so he must have been born in 1862 or 1863.
William Cairns and ????? ????? had 3 children (as far as I know! - maybe
more!) They were: Mildred, Kitty (probably Kathleen) and Will. I know
nothing of Kitty except my uncle Bill's recollection of a "Kitty" and an
"Uncle Will". We have located Uncle Will's grave at Tower Hamlets Cemetary,
and it would seem that he died in August 1st, 1945 aged 66.
Mildred Cairns was my grandmother.
Mildred Cairns (born approx 1894 in Southsea) married Arthur "Titch" Ellis.
He died about 1932. Grandmother died in 1936 or very early 1937 at the
latest, just before I was born.
I don't know if they met in London, or moved there.
They had 5 children, Mildred (my mother), Kathleen, Violet, William and
Peter, and 2 stepchildren, Arthur and Mina, from her husband's previous
marriage to an Annie Scrutton who may have died in childbirth.
I suspect I may have a few distant cousins somewhere, if Kitty or William
had children and I would enjoy finding them!
I send this in hopes that it might fit in the jigsaw somewhere.
Thanks, Geraldine Rigdon nee Green, before Ellis, before Cairns

Don, I know we've been in touch before, but can't remember if
we found a
"Cairns" in common. My line if through James Thomas Cairns who came from
Scotland around 1849, first to New York and then on to Illinois. You
mention that

What is this Scottish naming sequence?
