Message Board Post:
Thank you for the data posted 9 Feb 2014 regarding William Cairns arriving Lawrence City,
PA in 1790. My research shows Dr. Caldwell Cairns (MD) was born in 1771. I assumed that
he was born in PA. Maybe he was born in Ireland and immigrated to the USA in 1790.
Earlier research reveals that Dr. Cairns and his brother Robert Cairns moved west through
Indiana and finally settled in St. Clair County, IL. Dr. Cairns married Mary Bond in
1800. He also was involved in the first Illinois Constitutional Convention representing
either St. Clair or Monroe County, IL. His signature is on the Illinois Constitution
initial founding as a state in 1819/20. Any additional information that you or anyone
else has regarding Dr. Caldwell Cairns (prior to 1800) would be much appreciated. I would
like to know where he went to medical school and be able to trace his family back into
Ireland. Thank you. Bill Cairns
