Hi Maureen,
Thank you for offering to check on my Cairns. My great great great
grandfather was Andrew Cairns. I don't know when he was born, but I have
found a marriage record which states that he married Barbara Spence of
Hutton in Scotland on 1 January 1799. He was from the parish of Lowick (in
Northumberland), but the marriage took place at a place called Broad Meadows
(location unknown to me). They had 10 children altogether, and they are all
buried in the churchyard at Lowick. Andrew died in 1829 and was also buried
at Lowick, which is within about 5 miles of the Scottish border. I have no
other information about Andrew, except that he was a grocer.
By the way, I am curious about your surname - does your family happen to
have any connections with Buckinghamshire? That's where my grandmother's
Burton family came from.
Thanks again for your offer. Don't spend a lot of time on it - but maybe
Andrew will pop up somewhere when you are looking for someone else!
Enid

Good morning Enid
Thank you very much for your reply even though you couldn't help with my
William, it was very nice of you to take the time.
I have been researching this man for about 20 years now and although I have
most of the details of his life, I simply have not found any details of his
birth or his parents. In all of the records I have found, it simply states
he was born in Aberdeen. I have even paid for research to be done, to no
avail. I only discovered his (???) date of birth this week, when the
Military Records became available, free of charge, on Find my Past.
I know that not all births were registered, & he was only 14 and half when
he enlisted in Royal Artillery at Woolwich. I have loads of questions about
how did he get to Woolwich, did he have a relative in London to help him? I
have absolutely no idea where to look next, so he will have to go on the
back burner for a while.
If you let me know the details of your Cairns, I can look on Find my Past
for you, to see if I can find them, that's if you want to of course.
In the meantime, Good Luck with your research and I sincerely hope we both
find who & what we are looking for.
Kind regards
Maureen

Hello Maureen,
Sorry to say I don't any information about your William Cairns. My Cairns
family lived in Northumberland, near the Scottish border, but I have not
been able to find any connections on the Scottish side. Also, no Williams
on my family tree. It seems to me we must have Cairns in Scotland, but I
have not found them.
Sorry I can't help. Good luck in your continued search.

I am looking for parents information regarding the above William Cairns.
He was born (he says in all documentation that I have) in Aberdeen,
Scotland.
I have nearly all of his Military Career, his Marriage, Death and all of
his children
What I don't have is any information about who his parents were. William
is
said to have been born on 15 Dec 1811 in Aberdeen
(Found yesterday on Military record on Find my Past).
Without a Birth Registration, I have no idea how to take this line back
any
further.
All/Any assistance would be greatly appreciated
Kind regards
Maureen
