Anette,
My story likely has nothing to do with yours. But there are some similarities. I would
like to find out what happened to my great-grandparents on my fathers side.
The spellings and dates (even years) change from document to document. So I grab at
anything similar.
My father (deceased), Wilbur Alexander Laidlaw, had a mother (who pushed me in my
stroller) named Eva Hazel Cairns (22 Nov 1896 CO-26 Dec 1894). A graduate of Loretta
Heights Academy in Colorado--either Denver or Colorado Springs.
Her sister Mamie (22Nov1896 CO-1969) did the same and both then travelled to San
Francisco.
Their brother Samuel (~1897-?) attended St. Vincent's home for boys in CO and went
into the military to chase Poncho Villa around a bit. I saw him in a picture with my S.F.
family of the time but I've heard no one knows what happened to him.
Prior/during these CO school days they were orphaned and raised by Catholic nuns
(associated with those schools, I guess).
Here is what I latched onto in your message: Henry died around age 45 between 1992 and
1900. If the year was 1898 onward then that might explain why my great-grandmother was
orphaned.
It would of course still be interesting to find out about their mother's side (rumored
to be McGraw or McGrath) and also what might have become of any other siblings. I would
guess there were several.
I wish I could find a birth certificate for either Mamie or Eva Hazel or Samuel Cairns
which has their parents' names on it but no such luck. Any comment or advice?
Also, I hope you can see my Laidlaw family tree (which includes or refers to the Cairns
tree). Please tell me if you cannot.
Thank you,
Laurine
