The original form of the name was indeed MacCathain, although the Mac went out of usage
some centuries ago. The "e" was added during the period of English rule when
adding an "e" was the fashioned way to make one's name look kinda "Ye
Olde Englische".
The Manx Caines are two separate families, one with DNA hap group R1a and descended from a
Viking; the other descended from a man with DNA hap group R1b of a variety called the
Little Scots Cluster, apparently descended from a Scotsman.
