The tradition handed down in my family was that they were of manx origin.
'Everybody' said it - from all sides i could trace. Nobody ever undertook a
genealogy search - until i started @ 15 years ago - with the intent of finding my Manx
origins (being a motorcycle fan!). I had a lot of problems getting anything on the Caine
name - but eventually with the online censuses and a comment from an Australian
genealogist who found my crew misspelt as Keane in the uk 1851 census - lo & behold
they were from Galway Ireland - with a marriage 1844 of Cain(e) & Linskey - both from
Galway in Warrington. I suspect here that the blarney stone was well at work - with the
Irish at that time not looked on favourably in the uk for coming over on mass to beat the
potato famine - so the Irish accent was conveniently put down to Manx! The family
following believed it for the next 160 years
