Message Board Post:
Can anybody add any new info regarding the truth or fiction of the following story, aside
from the time frame being off 100 yrs? (assuming it must be 18th century if they joined
the continental Army).
"From an interview with Samuel Houston Cain, b. 1881, from Liberty CO, TX:
42 Cain's came over from Galway, Ireland, in the early 17th century. A good portion
joined the continental Army. Some came South. One was killed on board. They were Irish
Methodists.
Samuel Houston Cain was the son of James Michael Cain. James was born in AL but lived in
GA before coming to TX. James is the son of Abel Patrick Cain b. @1800. Abel made the keel
for the first battle ship and was murdered in Pensacola, FL. Abel married Nancy Elizabeth
Knight, daughter of Cofield Knight and Edey Murphey."
I have found family trees that show Abel living to old age in Texas as well, with a second
wife Rosanna Hughes. I am trying to find out more about the Methodist Cains that may have
come over as a group, and whether the story has any basis in history anyone has found.
thanks
