Surname: CAIN, McDONALD
-------------------------
In response to the posting by Judith K. Arthur , my gr-gr-grandmother was
Anna CAIN McDONALD. I've learned that Anna was born abt 1822 in Norristown,
PA (outside of Philadelphia). In the census, it records Anna's parents
as being foreign-born.
Anna and her husband Daniel McDONALD (b abt 1820, Ireland) were in PA at
least through 1864 (judging by their childrens' birthplaces as listed in
the census). They then lived in the small town of College Springs, in southern
Page County, Iowa for the remainder of their lives. They and their children
lived in the rural areas around College Springs, Coin, and Northboro. The
Nodaway Co., MO that you mentioned lies immediately to the south of Page
County, and residents of those two counties have had numerous close ties
throughout their history.
College Springs in particular had a sizable, closely-knit population of
Scots-Irish immigrants and descendants in the mid- to late-1800s. Many
who moved to Page Co. convinced their kin from other states, as well as
from Ireland and Scotland, to join them later.
It's exciting to think there may be a possible connection between our lines.
I don't recall off-hand whether there is mention of Ohio in any of my Cain
research, which is packed away at the moment. Do you have any further info
that could give us clues?
Do you know where your John and Elizabeth Cain are buried? I'm going to
be in southern Page County at several cemeteries over Memorial Weekend.
I'd be happy to place a remembrance on their graves if it's not too far
off my travels.
You may either respond to me privately at armstrong(a)mail.com, through this
board, or through the Cain newslist. You just never know when someone will
see a posting and discover a connection!!
