Has anyone else seen the big black marble bench recently placed next to the State of Texas
monument erected in 1936 for our ancestors at Indianola? It is sitting right beside the
monument, maybe 6" away, sharing the space. While the Cain family considers it
fitting for their family, it is very inappropriate to be placed right next to the
Indianola monument. Those 1936 monuments are very special, and were placed all over the
state at very honored places, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Republic of
Texas.
On top of the black slab bench, in big gold letters, it says
IN HONOR OF
ROLAND AND VIRGINIA CAIN
BY
RUSSELL AND CHERRE CAIN
SHARON SMALLEY
MARK AND BARBARA KOLODZIEJ
ALAN AND TERESA CAIN
The slab is about 6" thick, and on the side says CAIN. They even extended the 1936
Monument's concrete footing on one side for their bench.
The Texas Historic Commission and the State of Texas have been notified, and I thought
other Cains might like to know as well.
Russell and Cherre Cain have a website:
