Sandy: The Ambrose Cain you are looking for just may be on my ancestor list.
Ambrose Cain, son of Abijah and Martha (?) Cain was b. in Warren Co. Ohio
about 1814.
Abijah was born in Union Co. South Carolina about 1769. He married Martha ?
about 1804 in Warren Co. Ohio or Wayne Co. Indiana. Abijah died in Fountain
Co. Indiana in 1833. Martha died 4 Aug 1860 in Oskaloosa, Alabama at the
residence of G.A. McGlothlin. She was 83 yrs., 7 months of age. (Oskaloosa
Independent, Aug. 1860)
Abijah was the son of Jonathan Cain and Barbara Harold. They came to Charles
Town (now Charleston) SC in 1763 according to ship records. He carried a
Land Grant from the King of England, a copy of which is on file at the SC
Archives. They settled at Padgett's Creek Settlement in Union, SC about
1777. They may have been Quakers as his son John stated in his pension
papers (Am. Rev.) that he joined the revolution as a substitute for his
father who was opposed to war. I haven't been able to find anything on
Barbara Harold. Jonathan and Barbara had 15 children. Their migration
pattern is Union Co. SC, Warren Co., Ohio, Wayne Co., IN, Fountain Co. IN.
Ambrose had 4 brothers and sisters that I know of. My GGGrandfather, John,
was his brother. There were 3 sisters, Barbara, Margaret, and Delila.
Ambrose may have returned to Ohio since he died there.
I have family group sheets to share if you will send your address, Sandy. I
do not have them on computer.
