I hate to say it but the lights of connection are dimming. Family lore says your CAINs
originated in Belfast. Were they Catholic? Mine were definetly from Tipperary. I
don't know much about John except that he is the younger brother of my ggrandmother,
Johanna CAIN Judge. I have his photo and know his children's names but not his wife.
I have assumed that when John and Johanna emigrated from Ireland possibly in 1856 aboard
the ship Neptune and landed in NY, they traveled to Chicago because SOMEBODY of theirs was
there. Otherwise why wouldn't they stay in NY. John was a child and Johanna took a
job as a cook's helper in a boarding house in Chicago. It just makes sense to me that
they hooked up with relatives who were already in Chicago. So anytime I hear of a CAIN
from Chicago in the 1800s I jump at it. Sacred Heart Parish records indicate John also
used the spelling "Kane" while Johanna was definite about CAIN. Wish we could
find a link.
