Will of John Lafayette Cain of Iredell County, North Carolina, 1917
I, John L. Cain, of Iredell County, and State of North Carolina, do hereby
make, publish and declare this my last will and testament:
1st. I, give and bequeath to James Cain, one Iron-Graymare colt, now three
years old named Maude.
2nd. My will and desirels, that my beloved wife Jane Cain, shall have all
my personsl property of what so ever nature, after paying all my just debts
including burial expenses out of same, to have and to use during her natural
life, and at her death, any of said property remaining, shall be divided
eaqually between my six children; namely, Arthur Lee, Anderson Jackson,
John Lafayette, Jr., and Robert Harvey Cain, Sallie V. (Cain) Renegar and
Katie Belle (Cain) Booe.
3rd. I, hereby appoint R. H. Cain and D. L. Renegar, my lawful Executors
to execute this my last will and testament, to all intents and purposes
contained therein.

In the Superior Court, before Clerk.
A paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of J. L. Cain,
deceased, is exhibited before me, the undersigned, Clerk of the Superior
Court for said county, by R. H. Cain and D. L. Renegar, the executors therein
mentioned and the due execution thereof by the said J. L. Cain, is proved
by the oath and examination of T. G. Wallace and J. M. Grose, the subscribing
witnesses thereto who being duly sworn, doth depose and say, and each for
himself deposeth and saith that he is a subscribing witness to the paper-writing
now shown him, puporting to be the last will and testament of J. L. Cain,
that the sid J. L. Cain, in the presence of this deponent, subscribed his
name at the end of said paper-writing now shown as aforesaid, and which
bears date of the 21st. day of April, 1917.
And the deponent further said, that the said J. L. Cain, testator aforesid
did at the time of subscribing his name as, aforesid, declare the said
paper-writing so subscribed by him and exhibited, to be his last will and
testament, and this, deponent did thereupon subscribe his name at the end
of said will as an attesting witness thereto, and at the request and in
the presence of the said testator.
And this deponent further saith, that at the said time when the said testator
subscribed his name to the said last will as aforesaid, the said J. L.
Cain was of sound mind and memory, of full age to execute a will, and was
not under any restraint to the knowledge, information or belief of this
deponent: And further these deponents say not.
Severally sworn and subscribed this 22nd. day of January, 1918, before
me, J. A. Hartness, C.S.C.

In the Superior Court.
It is therefore considered and adjudged by the Court that the said paper-writing,
and every part thereof, is the last will and testament of J. L. Cain, deceased,
and the same with the foregoing examination and the certificate are ordered
to be recorded and filed.
