Just saw your posting about the origins of the surname Cain. I think if you can find
a copy of the book "The Ulster Clans" by T.H. Mullin & J. E. Mullan you
would find that the name Cain (and it's many variations) has been around in the
British Isles since about the 4th century. Most scholars seem to think the name
started in Ireland. It has been on the Isle of Man since the very early 1500's and it
migrated to Scotland about the 1100's. Some researchers have found the name in
England as early as the 1400's.
From the research that I have done over the years, I have found Cain's (and
various spellings) in America since about the 1600's. Hope this is of some help to
you.
