Hi Everyone,
I am new to the list. My name is Ricky Cain and I grew up in southwest
Louisiana (the Lake Charles and Westlake area). I have been trying to trace
my roots for about 2 years now and have been stuck on my gggrandfather for
most of that time.
All of the history that I have been able to trace is in Louisiana with only
a few small exceptions. It appears that my family, beginning with my
grandfather, Abe Cain, were all illiterate. In census reports I find our
name spelled 'Cain', 'Kane', and 'King'. They were all farmers
and
apparently lived dirt poor.
My gggrandfather's name is Isaac Cain. I'm looking for information about
his family. Who is his father? Where did they come from? I believe Isaac
was born in Florida around 1839. His mother, Ellen, was born around 1800 in
North Carolina. Her maiden name may be Clark.
Isaac met and married Susan Ritter (b abt 1852) in Texas around 1867. They
had one son, Adram, there, then moved to Louisiana where Susan gave birth
to six more children: Tonlouis, Patric, Richard, Ellen, Robert (my
ggrandfather), Isaac, Jr. (I am not sure about the spelling of these
names. It is difficult to read from the 1880 census. Tonlouis may be
Jonlouis. Adram could be Abram. etc.)
During the time of the 1880 census, Isaac's mother was living with them and
is listed as Ellen C. Clark. Ellen's parents are listed
as being born in Virginia.
If you have any more information, I would love to hear from you. I would
also be happy to share any information that I have.
My best to you all,
Ricky L. Cain
