I'm still at a dead end on ancestors of WALTER CAIN SR., born about
1760, believed to be at or near Wellsburg, Brooke County, West
Virginia (previously District of Augusta, Virginia). His wife was MARY
VAN BUSKIRK, a descendant of the well documented Van Buskirk family
of New Amsterdam and New Jersey.
The Cains are said to have owned a "fruit farm" in Brooke Co., and
allegedly owned several slaves, all of whom they eventually manumitted
except for a servant named "Jack." Walter and Rebecca Cain had four
known children: Rebecca Cain b. 1779 (my direct ancestor who married
HENRY LYNN/LINN), Polly Cain b. around 1782, Walter Cain Jr. b. 1790,
George H. Cain b. 1810. I believe this Walter Cain, and/or some of his
children also owned some land across the Ohio River from Brooke County
in Jefferson County, Ohio.
There seems to be no shortage of Cains all over the country, in all
time periods, but so far I can't find out where this Walter Cain's
family came from - I assume it was from some place farther back east.
Any help or suggestions will be very much appreciated.
Best regards from beautiful Alaska!
