I have a great-uncle William Cain born: 10 Jan 1809 in what is now Mays Landing in South
(New) Jersey. His father was Thomas Cain Sr. His mother was Hester Johnson.
Thomas Sr. was born in the same area about 1777. I am sure, but can't prove it yet,
that Thomas Cain Sr's father was John Cain Jr. John Cain Sr. came to South Jersey
around 1720-1730 from Delaware with a business partner, a man named Edmund Illiff. They
settled along the Great Egg Harbor river in South Jersey. The Cain's are still living
in the area.
Family legend has John Sr. and Illiff coming from England together a few years before.
With John Sr. having been born on the Isle of Man.
