Message Board Post:
Sandra,
Thankyou so much for your response.
Let me give you the story behind my gggrandmother.
In the family Bible it says:
G-grandmother Kane - one daughter Nancy- married a Baker - had a daughter Tirzah Horner
had a son that died in infancy and one daughter Tirzah, mother died when baby was 4 days
old
left the baby Tirzah to be raised by G.M. Baker, then she married Andrew Corrie. Raised 9
children.
Now it says that she was raised by her grandmother baker, and here is what I found in the
1860 Jefferson Co. Saluda Twp. Indiana census.
7/7
Henry Baker 51/m Farmer 2,900/625 PA
Nancy 46/f KY
John 20/m Farming IN
Martin 18/m Farming IN
Caroline 16/f IN
Jacob 14/m IN
William 7/m IN
Tirzah Horner 7/f IN
This means her grandmother is Nancy Baker instead of what I thought before was her
mother's name. But of course I'm thrown off again when I check the 1850 census
same area. It states as follows:
591/593
Henry Baker 40/m Farmer 800 ?
Ellender? 38/f IN
Susan 13/f IN
John 10/m IN
Martin 7/m IN
Caroline 5/f IN
Jacob 4/m IN
George 3/m IN
So now I'm stuck. Who is Ellender? Is it another name for Nancy (which I come across
before on other family research) or did he remarry? More than likely the Nancy Goforth is
the Nancy in the 1860 census thus she was married to Henry Baker.
If you or anyone can help I would be very greatful. Thanks
